Bicycle sharing is a sustainable, healthy, and community-based transport option that enhances urban livability and mobility. Under contract with the City of Chicago DOT, Alta Bicycle Share is excited to announce the beginning of its operation of Chicago Bike Share and seeks to fill several key leadership roles leading up to system launch of 300 stations and 3000 bikes.
Alta Bicycle Share is seeking an experienced Marketing Manager responsible for all marketing activities to launch and manage Chicago Bike Share on an ongoing basis. You’ll be a part of a ground-breaking team that focuses on developing and educating the next generation of bicycle transportation. The unique challenge will be to explore unconventional ways to build strong relationships within the Chicago cycling and political community to gain public acceptance of bike sharing.
Lead the marketing launch of the Chicago Bike Share system while learning all aspects of the system, culminating in a major high-profile launch event. Launch activities will include:
o Establishing and managing marketing and PR plan and budget in coordination with City/DOT client(s).
o Working with City/DOT client(s) to establish branding of system, and receive approvals on bike design and fender design.
o Working with graphic designers, copywriters, manufacturers, printers to receive approvals and order kiosk stickers, stickers on bikes, marketing materials for member packet and pre-launch activities, website design.
o Managing media, PR, digital, promotional and social media strategy.
o Implementing systems for tracking and reporting membership growth.
o Implementing a large launch event that will garner national and global media attention.
Reporting to the General Manager and Corporate Marketing Director, lead all aspects of ongoing marketing for Chicago Bike Share system after launch, including:
o Manage a team of people, coordinate and maintain strong ongoing relationships among multiple parties, including sponsor(s), agency(s), manufacturer, other subcontractor(s) and clients.
o Managing ongoing marketing plan to grow membership, including media, PR, digital, social media, events, promotions and corporate sales.
o Budgeting and tracking of all marketing expenses.
o Ongoing quantitative analysis around pricing, membership and response to promotions, media and events.
o Ongoing strategic thinking and ideation, in coordination with City/DOT client(s).
o Plan and execute promotions, communications, marketing events, partnerships, and sales programs to grow membership and increase visibility of the bike share system.
o Drive continuous improvement of the business in line with international standards and company corporate initiatives.
o Work with stakeholders to ensure all aspects of marketing include strong community engagement and safety messaging.
Undergraduate degree in marketing, business, communications or related field. Advanced degree a plus.
5-10 years of significant communication experience in marketing, community relations, public relations, non-profit management, fundraising, political campaigns or related field. Proven ability to lead and motivate a team successfully.
5 years’ experience in membership based organization desired.
Exceptional original writing skills, including the ability to synthesize and improve existing written material, keen editorial judgment, and the ability to write for different audiences and delivery channels (email, websites, social media, etc.) to effectively communicate Alta’s mission, impact, and value proposition to a range of stakeholders
Self-starter and problem solver: Creative mind, analytic skills, strategic thinker, yet can get “hands dirty” in all aspects of marketing bike share.
High comfort level with ambiguity and entrepreneurship a must.
Strong management skills with the ability to manage up and laterally.
High level of interpersonal maturity, poise, and judgment.
Calmly adapts to changes in the work environment, managing competing demands and able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
High proficiency in Excel, Word Google Applications and ability to learn new software.
Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to the vision, mission and values of sustainable transportation.
Ability to learn, understand, simplify and communicate complex technical and business aspects of a bike share system.
Positive attitude and sense of humor a must.
Job may require hours that exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week.
May require travel.
