With assets under advisement in excess of $60 billion and representing all asset classes, Alan Biller and Associates provides full service fiduciary investment consulting to more than 90 multi-employer pension plans. We are seeking an Operational Due Diligence Analyst, principally, but not exclusively for non-marketable assets including real estate, private equity and debt and fund-of funds. The position reports to our Co-Directors of Research.

General Qualifications
Experience in qualitative due diligence, including processes, compliance, conflicts, and service providers

Knowledge of fund structures, e.g., master/feeder, SPV, on/offshore, LP, trusts, mutual funds

Basic knowledge of different types of fund offering documents

Outstanding analytical, organizational and communication skills

Ability and desire to to work collaboratively with other strong team members

Specific Responsibilities

  • Determine manager capability and suitability for searches and then evaluate managers and funds:
  • Review and analyze public and manager supplied information; verify the latter
  • Collect and analyze the fund’s legal documentation; help client’s legal counsel negotiate contract terms/side letter agreements
  • Participate in onsite due diligence focused on operational procedures, processes and support, internal compliance and controls, reporting and personnel
  • Evaluate valuation practices and NAV analysis
  • Understand vendor and counterparty exposures
  • Review audited financial statements and regulatory filings
  • Conduct reference checks
  • Maintain due diligence questionnaires
  • Write oversight updates to internal staff and clients

Minimum requirements

  • BA in Finance or Accounting- MBA or Law degree preferred
  • CFA
  • 4+ years relevant operational or due diligence experience
  • Working knowledge of investment manager operations
  • In-depth understanding of direct investing, fund-of-funds
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Proficiency with Excel spreadsheets and database applications
  • Demonstrated track record of sound and accurate judgment

The ideal candidate will have had experience at a fund of funds or in a similar multi-manager environment and/or similar experience at a major audit firm.
