The Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Pastoral Care Department as well as serving as a multi-faith chaplain within a strong multi-faith pastoral care department; exercises leadership in operations and acts as a theological consultant. Time will be divided between management and direct care. The Manager promotes the hospital philosophy by respecting the uniqueness and dignity of each person and by implementing the values of justice and compassion in all professional interactions. The Manager will monitor the department’s performance and quality while ensuring that the appropriate development, interpretation and implementation of the Mercy Region’s policies and procedures are in place.
Masters Degree in Roman Catholic theology or related field. Successful completion of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education, with ACPE certification. Ecclesial endorsement by appropriate church authority. Five years prior experience as a chaplain in a health care setting or experience in a helping profession. Certification from the National Association of Catholic Chaplains or the Association of Professional Chaplains.
The Pastoral Care Department of Lourdes serves all ages of inpatients, outpatients, associates, volunteers, medical staff and families and friends of patients/residents. Patients are offered information on Pastoral Care Services through brochures, chaplain, eucharist minister and befriender's initial visits and staff referrals. Chaplains are prepared to provide pastoral assessment, pastoral counseling, prayer, ethics consultations, and referrals, to all degrees of complexity of situations.
