The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District is actively recruiting to fill two Fire Inspector vacancies in the Fire Prevention Bureau. These positions perform a variety of fire protection duties including conducting inspections of public and private premises, enforcing fire ordinances and regulations, and educating the public on fire safety practices.
License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out of state valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license will be accepted during the application process.
Education: Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency or high school proficiency certificate; and
1) Successful completion of California State Fire Service Training and Education courses: Fire Prevention 1A, Fire Prevention 1B, and Fire Investigation 1A or equivalency, and 2) Successful completion of the California Peace Officers' Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Certified Penal Code 832 Module A Training Program.
Within 12 months of employment, appointees must satisfactorily complete International Code Council Certification as a Fire Inspector I and California State Fire Service Training and Education course Fire Prevention 1C.
Experience: Either 1) three (3) years of full-time or its equivalent firefighting experience in the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District or 2) two (2) years of full-time or its equivalent experience as a Fire Prevention Technician in the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District or 3) two (2) years of full-time or its equivalent technical experience in code enforcement related to fire prevention, fire engineering, fire safety or building inspection.
Other Requirements: Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship.
Age: Must be at least 21 years of age.
Physical Requirements: Ability to meet such health standards as is established by the County Medical Consultant.
