Technical Writer

Sequoia Voting Systems
-
San Leandro, CA
-

June 2002 to May 2009

Reduced from 5 months to 2, the time required for federal certification of product documentation, by building and maintaining templates, testing products, and interfacing with external test labs, resulting in Sequoia bringing $1M products to market ahead of their competitors.

A key 3-month documentation project was 30 days late, and going "critical." Sent to Florida, by VP, as Lead Technical Writer (on 1-day notice), turned around the situation, and completed the project on schedule, rescuing a $1M project.

California rewrote the standard, creating an urgent situation, where product documentation for 3, $1M systems; optical, touch-screen, and election management, had to be delivered, simultaneously. At CEO request, wrote, and led a documentation project team. As a result, Sequoia was the only company who met the deadline.

This resulted in a $500K increase in projected revenue, with 100% positive feedback.

As Lead Technical Writer, created and finished a set of product documentation that was submitted with a proposal for server- and client-side IP Telephony Software, resulting in a $250K projected revenue increase, and reduction of span time by 66%.

The Engineering department was about to test the High Power Amplifier, in Guam, with the wrong test procedure, which could have resulted in "Buy Off" being held up for a multi-million dollar tracking station. And, because I knew the equipment, well, and had written the correct test procedure, I convinced Management that this mistake was about to take place. As a result, they asked me to make an emergency trip to Guam, where I personally conducted integration & operational testing of the unit, in front of the USAF, resulting in immediate "Buy Off."
