I am seeking a Medical Office Specialist position in which I may utilize my clerical, customer relations, communications, medical billing and coding, medical terminology, medical transcription, and computer skills to become a team player with you health care facility. 
I worked for the American Legion office, a non-profit veterans organization, at the V.A. Medical Center in Detroit for seven years and at the Patrick V. McNamara Federal Building for twenty-five years. I have experience using Microsoft Word for typing submittals of veterans' claim work, letters, or any other written communication, Microsoft Access for calculating credits from veteran's benefits,. This information contributed to the annual report submitted to the State of Michigan determining the Organizations funding. I maintained monthly diary lists updating them as instructed, communicated with various American Legion offices and V.A.offices in and out of state. I assisted veterans in person and on the phone, created new files, inventory control of general office supplies, general filing.  
I recently returned to school where I learned the needed skills for Medical Office Specialist. 
I earned a certificate as a Medical Office Specialist, the President's Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.75 to 4.0, and a Typing Award for typing 50 wpm. 
I am proficient in ICD-9, CPT and HCPCS coding. I am familiar with medical billing, Medisoft Accounting Software, Microsoft Outlook for scheduling appointments, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Word. I am familiar with medical terminology and medical abbreviations and capable of transcribing doctor's orders and medical dictation. I have the ability to show compassion toward patients and visitors and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and staff members. I am also familiar with medical office procedures, hospital policies and HIPAA Law regarding confidentiality of patients records and information. 
Although I have not worked in a medical office per se, I have worked in a medical environment for the American Legion at the V.A. Medical Center in Detroit for seven years. 
The experience I have acquired working for the American Legion for over thirty years combined with the newly acquired skills as a Medical Office Specialist qualifies me as a candidate for this position.
