Northwest R-I School District
July 2013 - Present
Northwest R-I School District is a PreK-12 school district located in northwest Jefferson
County, Missouri. In this newly created role, I implemented communication efforts
utilizing social media outlets including Facebook and Twitter. I write and photograph
images and video for all 10 schools, as well as train school district administrators on the appropriate use of social media. I regularly write content and speeches for district
administrators and key community members for a variety of school and public events. In
addition, I take photos for the school district's social media channels, district website,
internal and external communications and biannual newsletter. Writing, designing and coordinating publicity and press releases for various district and community-wide events
is a daily job responsibility. Working with several schools, departments and school and community leaders to implement communication plans on different levels is an ongoing
process. Scriptwriting, speech writing and media training for key leaders in our schools and community is another task that I fulfill on a regular basis as well as prepping them
for internal video shoots that I shoot, write and edit myself. These tasks are made easier
due to the solid working relationships I've built with key business and community
stakeholders that has in turn, resulted in dozens of donations worth thousands of dollars to our schools and departments. It's also resulted in increased awareness and visibility
for our schools and community. In addition, I spearheaded the Jefferson County Rogue
Communication Group that leads professional development for superintendents and other school personnel in Jefferson, Franklin and Washington counties. Every other
month, I present on a variety of topics to help neighboring school districts navigate
highly effective communication when they may not have someone designed to do it. In
addition, I've brought notoriety to Northwest Schools by not only securing the Fox 2 Pep
Zone for 4 years to come to the high school and feature students, but also promote it on social media to help secure 3 back-to-back wins for our students and school district. As
a part of this effort, I also planned, collaborated and helped execute the installation of an outdoor camera at our high school that lives streams on our website and is available for media to use during their newscasts.
I've also executed and lead a team of 14 on a complete new design of the school
district's website, notification system and app. That website received an Award of Merit
recognition at the 2017 Fall Missouri School Public Relations Association's conference.
