Substance Abuse Counselor I

Provides substance abuse counseling and recovery skills training: participates in offender orientations, educational and individual and process counseling groups in compliance with program standards, guidelines, policies and procedures. Interviews, screens, and evaluates offender for potential program participation. Provides a comprehensive evaluation from a battery of valid measurement tools to assess the recovery needs. Participates in the Individual Treatment Plan based on the severity and characteristics of the offender as determined by the comprehensive assessment, review of collateral information, and the Clinical interview. Maintains offender records and other records regarding services provided to include workload statistics: and compiles data and submits reports and related documentation as appropriate. Provides liaison to participants of training programs, workshops, and seminars. Implements follow-up and after care plans for offenders that participate in the program prior to their release; and disseminates information on community resources for offender placement in follow-up treatment. At the conclusion of the program, an Individual Progress Summary will be developed for each offender on the caseload to reflect the evaluation results together with comments about the offender's level of participation and quality of completion in the program. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques. Maintain the accountability of staff, offenders and property; adhere to safety practices.

Correctional Officer III

Searches for contraband and provides security; counts, feeds, and supervises offenders in housing, work, and other areas accessed by stairs; and maintains security of various assigned areas involving long periods of sitting and standing, climbing stairs and ladders to reach the assigned areas, and working at heights. I worked as a cashier. My job responsibilities included me checking customers out and assisting them in any way possible. I was a service supervisor as needed. When I worked as a service supervisor I was responsible for my fellow employees on that shift. I would count the self-checkout terminals, cash registers and the safe. I was also responsible for making sure that employees received their necessary breaks and lunches.

I have worked as a cashier, service supervisor, lobby clerk and assistant front end manager. My position was a cashier which consisted of me checking customers out. When I was the assistant manager, I assisted my manager as well as helped her supervise my fellow employees. I counted the safe as well as loaned and picked up money to cash registers. I was also responsible for helping the cashiers count their tills down. I also closed our front end down which consisted of counting cash registers as well as self-checkout terminals. When I worked as a lobby clerk my duties consisted of answering the phone, monitoring and selling tobacco, selling Texas Lotto and using the Money Order/Money Gram service. I also handled returns and exchanges as well as some customer complaints. Depending on where I worked my duties varied.
