At McCracken & Lopez I was RCDD / Electrical with the heavy emphases’ on electrical design of power and equipment loads.
At Catholic Health Initiatives, Region 2, which encompasses Kentucky (KentuckyOne Health – 23 hospitals/160+ clinics) and Indiana my title was: Architect – Information and Communications Technology / Master Facility Planning/Merger & Acquisitions. My responsibilities ranged from new facilities design oversight to full design, master planning, budgetary numbers and project bidding along with contractor management, depending on project and contract obligations. Areas of design include full structured cabling for data/voice/CATV/AV, full telecommunications space planning/design, grounding/bonding, security/access control, nurse call, paging, wireless access points, UPS/emergency power, plus the interface for audio/visual (A/V), telemetry and patient monitoring. Also coordinate single/three phase power, lighting and cooling of telecommunication spaces.
At LGS Innovations (Bell Labs), my role was outside plant (OSP) Engineer working on military base master planning and budgets plus inside plant (ISP) design for new network equipment and telecommunication spaces.
While at Affiliated Engineers Inc (AEI), my role as Lead IT Engineer (Senior Designer) of Technology Services was to assure a complete, coordinated and integrated telecommunications infrastructure for the network and other IP based applications/systems that may run over the network. From Basis of Design (BOD)/Scope of Work (SOW) through punch list and final inspection, all aspects of consulting and design are encompassed. In addition to telecommunications/structured cabling, Technology Services provide full low voltage systems design that includes Security (access control/intrusion detection), Wireless Access Points (personal and asset tracking), Distributed Antenna System (DAS), Paging, Nurse Call, Clock Systems, etc. Projects have included data centers, healthcare facilities, laboratory spaces, office buildings, distance learning classrooms and video conferencing. New construction, shelled space up-fits, moves-adds-changes (MAC) and historical renovations have all been part of my experience while at Affiliated Engineers Inc.
Prior to Affiliated Engineers Inc., I spent almost 10 years designing federal and military projects throughout the United States that also included work with the Department of Defense, US Corp of Engineers, and the Veterans’ Administration. Military projects included base realignment and new reserve bases including both full electrical and telecommunications design. Specialties included full structured cabling design, NIPRNet/SIPRNet/JWICS/TS network design, Tempest shielding for telecommunications rooms and closets, full interior/exterior lighting design and lightning protection systems.
Other areas of design experience have also included new construction and renovation including life safety, control rooms, demolition, waste treatment, electrical distribution systems, interior and exterior lighting, fire detection, grounding/bonding, lightning protection, site work planning, hazardous (classified) atmospheres and high security (SCIF) layouts. Plus, experience in outside plant (OSP) design, campus environments and master planning.
My goal is to provide my clients (both internal and external) with the best design possible that meets their needs on Day One and provides flexibility for the future. Once complete, I want any project that I have associated with my name and the company I represent to be a successful integration of construction, technology and overall system performance.
