Director, Selling Services (Lawn/Garden, Outdoor Living, Tools)

The Director - Selling Services provides strategic direction on merchandise presentation and visual implementation for the Sears Lawn & Garden, Outdoor Living, Tools, and Paint business units. Provides these business partners with accurate and timely information on store capacities that impact assorting and/or buying decisions. Consults with the BUs on how to maximize sales potential via simplified direction to the field organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads the strategic direction for merchandise presentation in the Sears Retail formats
  • Participates in and conducts market visits with Field Business Managers and business partners
  • Provides disciplined leadership support including setting clear expectations and holding the team and self accountable for results
  • Supports customer focused strategies, policies and programs as measured by Customer Satisfaction, survey data and verbatim comments
  • Synthesizes business specific field feedback to optimize Business Unit strategy, communication and customer impact
  • Partners with merchants, inventory, marketing, space planning and logistics to maximize sales and profits on a store by store basis
  • Selects, develops and manages the performance of Divisional Sales Managers, Visual Implementation Managers and District Business Managers, measured by appropriate performance reports / scorecards / dashboards
  • Supports the execution of the client’s (brand/business) plan by managing the relationship between Selling Services and our clients
  • Creates collaborative relationships with Retail Field Management, Retail Operations, Merchants, Training & Development, Talent & Human Capital Services and other key business partners to build flawless, executable action plans based on strategic approach and store capacity
  • Develops an effective process to communicate business plans to staff and field
  • Partners with our clients to develop selling processes that deliver their sales and margin expectations, as well as partner with inventory management and marketing and other support businesses to provide operational guidance to ensure all strategies and initiatives are executable at the store level and have accurate supporting details
  • Acts proactively has a sense of urgency to improve execution and business results on store by store basis
  • Builds partnerships within assigned area of responsibility (product category)

  • Partners with clients on all related activities including competitive research, pricing strategies, merchandising changes and is an active member of all line reviews and assortment / reset meetings
  • Provides feedback to the client on sales and visual implementation opportunities that are impacting sales and profitability that are within their scope
  • Works with Retail Service partners to ensure business objectives are being implemented and provides our clients feedback and tracking of results (where possible)
Qualifications:
SKILLS

  • 7 - 10 years of related retail merchandising experience, with a mix of buying, planning and placement responsibilities
  • We expect a strong understanding of retail-related selling and/or retail operating environment
  • Strong analytical skills, including financial analysis capability
  • Ability to effectively drive results through others, including those that are not direct reports
  • Ability to develop strong partnerships
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
