ACCOUNTANT TRAINEE-TRAVEL WORK SETTING: In the Regional Accounting Office (RAO), this is the entry and trainee level in the professional accounting series. The incumbent works under close supervision from a higher level professional accountant. In a learning capacity, the incumbent processes the more technical claims following guidelines provided by collective bargaining agreements, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR, formerly Department of Personnel Administration (DPA)), and the State Controller’. . Incumbent will also be assigned to various research projects. CONTACT WITH OTHERS: The incumbent has regular contact with a broad range of CDCR staff located at institutions, parole offices, and headquarters, and upon direction from management, CalHR and the State Controller’s Office. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: The incumbent does not supervise. This position will have the more technical duties of the unit. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: The Accounting Administrator I supervises the incumbent. 40% Acts as lead over lower level travel processing staff; Address concerns regarding the application of bargaining unit contract language and departmental travel guidelines; Audit and approve travel advance requests; Audit and process more complex travel expense claims such as relocation, long term assignment, subpoena, and out of state. 40% Monitor and update travel information such as the CDCR Travel Guide and travel related forms posted on the Travel Portal; Research, review and analyze changing policies; Assist in establishing written guidelines and desk procedures. 10% Prepare and post CalATERS fees and/or American Express payments, ensuring that appropriate coding is utilized; Research and correct travel expenditures that have posted erroneously. 10% Review processing errors indentified when uploading inbound CalATERS file into SAP; Will utilize reported errors to assist in monitoring lower level staff and as a training tool. *** ACCOUNTING OFFICER-TRAVEL WORK SETTING: In the Regional Accounting Office (RAO), this is the entry and trainee level in the professional accounting series.
