The electronics solutions business is seeking a materials scientist in support of disruptive film technology exploration in lighting.
This person will conduct research into the structure, properties and performance of polymer materials in order to obtain information that could be used to develop new products or enhance existing ones. They will be responsible for determining new ways to strengthen or combine materials, or develop new materials with new or specific properties for use in the area of lighting. Optical grade films are essential and will require both material optimization or redesign and developing engineering strategies. Tasks will include planning and executing laboratory experiments in support of defined technology roadmaps and supporting this with external literature and patent analysis. The candidate will work closely with research scientists to identify film prototyping options, structure-property testing of these films and linkages with the commercialization team as well as develop our intellectual property portfolio in line with our business strategy.
The ideal candidate
•Has a PhD in a materials science related discipline in the area of optical materials;
•Recognised in the industry as an established or up and coming technical expert in the field of optical materials;
•Track record of establishing external linkages with customers, academia and consortia;
•Demonstrated track record of external publication and patent filing;
•Has a passion for innovation with an entrepreneurial mindset;
•Is able to work independently & interact with global and multifunctional teams;
•Has a pragmatic approach for problem solving;
•Shows initiative and early interpretation of results;
•Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
•Has good safety practice;
•Is highly technically skilled, business oriented, and self-motivated;
•Has good time management skills;
•Is dynamic, rigorous, and analytical;
•Is flexible and able to adapt fast to priority changes and has sense of urgency;
•Is fluent in English.
•Is willing to work in the laboratory 80% of his/her time.
