· The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an emergency dispatcher with responsibility for receiving and transmitting information on emergencies, dispatching vehicles in response to emergencies and providing and maintaining emergency dispatch information.
· Receives emergencies, dispatches appropriate vehicles and maintains communications during emergencies.
· Maintains logs, checklists, charts and classified information.
· Receives routine telephone calls, greets visitors and ascertains the nature of the calls or visits.
· Interprets and translates data from maps to firefighting crews. Tests and operates fire alarm receiving and communications equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Back to top SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-04) or equivalent. Specialized experience must include emergency assistance by interpreting alarm locations and nature of emergencies and dispatching emergency response forces or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.

Federal Time-In-Grade (TIG) Requirement for General Schedule (GS) Positions: Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-04 or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral. The purpose of TIG restrictions is to prevent excessively rapid promotions in competitive service GS positions and to protect competitive principles.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of Fire Department operations. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices and procedures.

2. Knowledge of fire alarm receiving equipment. Knowledge of hazardous materials and munitions, explosives classes and symbols. Knowledge of fire vehicles.

3. Skill in operating communications equipment such as telephones, pagers and voice recorders.

4. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing using a calm and stable demeanor while dealing with emergency situations. Ability to read and interpret grid maps and utility maps.

5. Ability to input, correct, change, retrieve and track job-related information using computers. A qualified typist is not required.

6. Ability to maintain good working relations.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE : Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :

1. The employee is required to work unusual tours of duty.

2. The position requires the ability to discern colors.

3. The employee is required to obtain Hazardous Materials Awareness and Telecommunicator II certifications under IFSAC standards as adopted by DoD.

4. The employee must participate in offered Air Force schools, regional training seminars and courses and proficiency training on job related subjects.

5. The employee is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management.

6. The employee is subject to recall.

7. This is a key position. In the event of a crisis situation, the incumbent, or designated alternate, must continue to perform the key duties until relieved by proper authority. The incumbent or the designated alternate may be required to take part in readiness exercises. This position cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the organization to function effectively. This meets the criteria of a key position and requires that the incumbent, or the designated alternate, be removed from any military recall status.

8. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
