The key responsibilities for this position are as follows:
  • Contribute to the Olathe underwriting center that works with each region to service both new and renewal accounts within a specified premium band (less than $7,500). Low premium, new and renewal program business will be handled as well
  • Perform transactional desk underwriting. Rating is judgment
  • Utilize the E-World Source system for quoting and issuance
  • Underwrite new and renewal accounts within a specified premium band
  • Underwrite risks
  • Service existing accounts as needed. Coordinate handling of material change of an account with the appropriate region
  • Underwrite up to 9 lines of coverage for the WorldRisk Package subject to the delgated limit of underwriting authority
  • Communicate effectively over the phone and know when to escalate issues to the manager or region where communication needs to be clear and effective
Immediate Priorities:
  • Growth and expansion of the WRUC to assume the underwriting of an additional and expanded renewal portfolio. Expanding the renewal premium band beyond $7,500 to $9,000 will add an additional 800 accounts to be processed at the WRUC.
  • The expected unit count will escalate with training but this position will handle no fewer than 80 accounts per month, GWP of $2.4 million annually
  • This additional position will allow direct distribution from two national brokers as well as Growth Enterprises
  • Immediate need to relieve field underwriters of renewals in small energy and light engineering accounts adding 110 renewals annually
  • This candidate has experience in growing a portfolio working within the authority of the agency agreement. An MGU has multiple layers of customer and this candidate has effectively achieved this balance
  • With direct focus on west coast: there is a need to roll in 300 more renewals from the LA and San Francisco regions
  • Improve on rapid response in regard to broker service on small new business opportunities and endorsement requests
Position Requirements

  • Candidate must have at least 1-2 years of Casualty underwriting experience, commercial accounts, international underwriting experience is a plus
  • Must have strong communication and organizational skills
  • Must be customer focused and service oriented
  • Little to no travel required
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as overall computer skills
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Candidate should ideally have established broker relationships
  • Candidate should be a self-starter able to handle multiple priorities
Sales & Marketing - Experience working with national brokers and independent agencies as an Underwriter
Negotiating - Prior experience as a Managing General Underwriter, this candidate has experience in working within the framework of delegated authority and guidelines
Drive for Results - Can be counted on to exceed own goals and to push self and others for results
