This is a broad role in which you will provide direct support, technical expertise, and engineering services including design, fabrication, installation, construction management and start-up of peroxygen-based product storage and handling systems for customers and service companies. The Requirements
While a year or two of relevant experience would be helpful (this could even be in an internship scenario), this also could be a great opportunity for a recent grad to start building that resume. To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have:

A bachelor's degree in Chemical, Biochemical or Process Engineering; we also will consider Mechanical or Electrical Engineers who meet the other requirements listed here.

Proficiency in chemistry and an understanding of both organic and inorganic chemistry; biochemistry knowledge is a plus.

A basic understanding of control systems.

Process engineering skills with an aptitude for design.

An understanding of the impacts of material compatibility (materials science).

Mechanical aptitude and a willingness to get hands-on with tools and equipment. Some familiarity with pumps, piping, valves, etc. is strongly preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. CAD experience would be helpful.

Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, including the ability to interact effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts.

The ability to manage several projects and tasks simultaneously.

Strong self-motivation and the ability to achieve goals independently.

Operations knowledge is a strong plus.

You'll spend at least 60% of your time out in the field, and you'll need to be willing and able to travel overnight at least 25% of the time. You'll travel primarily in the US and also to Canada and other international locations, to conduct field trials, troubleshoot, assist sales in customer presentations, and more. Travel will vary with projects, and may be a couple of days to a week at a time; an occasional project may require two weeks of travel.

This position includes wide and varied exposure, in both production and lab environments, to chemicals, temperature variations, moving devices, and raw tissue, biological vectors, pathogens, off-gases, combustion products, organic chemicals and a variety of industrial environments etc. You must not be visually affected by food processing techniques or strong odors.

The Role
Reporting to the TSED Engineering Manager, you will join a team of Engineers and Technicians who help develop proprietary applications technologies and delivery systems for customers using FMC Peroxygen products. Product applications include industrial uses of hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid, persulfates and other peroxygen compounds. The team works closely with both Sales and R&D.

In general your activities will fall into two main areas:
Providing technical expertise and engineering services including safety and process safety leadership on projects to customize and install existing technologies at customer sites. This will include design, fabrication, installation, management of construction, and the start-up of storage and handling systems. You'll visit the client site, scope out what needs to be done, and provide estimates for cost, materials, labor, timeframe and more. Once the deal is inked, you'll support the installation on site, develop training and operations manuals, set up preventative maintenance schedules, and ensure the client is satisfied at startup.

Contributing to the development of new technology, including coordinating with external equipment/instrument vendors, creating and running tests, analyzing test data to refine ideas, creating models, and educating our Sales team about the new technology.

At any given time you can expect to be supporting multiple projects, which typically range from two to four weeks in length. We place a strong emphasis on safety and health, and will expect you to ensure compliance with OSHA, NIOSH, ACC Responsible Care ® and other health and safety standards.

About TSED
The Technical Service and Engineering Department focuses on three main areas: Providing value added services to support FMC's Peroxygens business in the areas of:

Safety and product stewardship,

New applications / trial support, and

Storage and handling system design and installation.

Supporting growth initiatives that emphasize developing customized solutions in collaboration with customers. Solutions include metering and dosing systems for microbial control, handling and dilution systems, new products and new applications.

Supporting FMC's internal hydrogen peroxide distribution network.

We offer a full array of customer support, including:
Safety and Responsible Care ® product stewardship.

On-site training and commissioning.

Technical support.

Safety inspection of new systems prior to startup.

Establishment and documentation of standard operating procedures.

Parts and service.

We develop and support solutions in a wide variety of applications. In food and food processing they include poultry, direct meat, facility and equipment treatments, fruit and vegetables, and aseptic packaging. Industrial processing applications include environmental treatments (soil, air, water), wastewater treatment, and oil field extraction and water remediation. We're always looking for new applications, so this list will grow.

Peroxygen products include Clarity TM , FMC Hydrogen Peroxide, Klozur TM , Peradigm TM , and Spectrum TM .
