To be considered, the successful candidate will have a minimum of 15 years experience within the scientific publishing industry, associations supporting the scientific community, nonprofit, academic, or corporate business management environment with a minimum of 5 years in a senior-leadership position supervising seasoned staff. He/she will have strong operational background, proven track record of linking operational strategy to strategic plan, solid business & financial acumen, expertise in one or more of the functional areas the incumbent will oversee, as well as excellent strategic planning and analytical skills. Success in this role will require a flexible, team building style, collaborative and servant leadership approach with exceptional judgment and excellent management skills.

Duties / Expectations:
The American Geophysical Union (AGU) is an international non-profit scientific association with over 60,000 members. Established in 1919 as a committee within the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences, AGU was independently incorporated in 1972.

AGU is seeking a senior level operational executive. The Chief Operating Officer will oversee the operations to include Human Resource & Administration, Finance, Development, Marketing and Membership. The position reports directly to the AGU Executive Director/CEO and serves as a member of the senior management team. This role will also serve as Chief of Staff for the ED/CEO and work in concert with the ED/CEO on strategic initiatives assuring AGU’s long-term growth and sustainability.
