The Graduate Assistant (GA) position is a para-professional role within the Division of Student Affairs and reports to the respective departmental supervisor. The GA is expected to contribute to the development, supervision, and evaluation of campus programming for both the specific department and the Division of Student Affairs. All Graduate Assistants will be required to take part in all divisional professional staff meetings and in-service training, and are expected to provide professional support to both department and University-wide events. The Graduate Assistant Coordinator will support and direct the GA program and in doing so provide leadership to ensure program continuity.

OFFICE OF STUDENT ACTIVITIES AND COMMUNITY SERVICES (OSACS) POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Student Affairs Graduate Assistant for OSACS will be responsible for providing support to a variety of functions within OSACS. This role requires the GA to be on-site for programming during evening and weekend hours.

  • Maintain daily office hours as scheduled
  • Assist with the supervision and management of evening and weekend programming to include special events (orientation, Family Weekend, Homecoming)
  • Schedule, train, supervise and evaluate the student support staff at the Wash Room. Work with the staff to develop programs, special events, and tournaments. Maintain an accurate inventory of the equipment available and submit supply orders as needed
  • Schedule, train, supervise and evaluate the student support staff at the Campus Center Information Desk
  • Work with OSACS professional staff to develop and implement systems to manage the Table Reservation process as well as usage of the EagleOne machine
  • Audit the use of the EagleOne machine and provide the EagleOne Center with a report listing club FOAPAL's and the amount to be transferred into each account. Provide monthly reports to OSACS as to the use of both and include recommendations if changes are needed
  • Assist with the department's leadership development efforts
  • Walk through the Campus Center on a daily basis and submit work orders for repairs as needed.
  • Manage the Off-Campus Vendor Program to include scheduling vendors, obtaining parking passes, and receiving payment. Maintain accurate logs with respect to their earnings and provide a report monthly to OSACS
  • Provide support to divisional and University-wide events including: First-year student orientation, UMW Family Weekend, Admission Days, and Commencement
WELLNESS POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Student Affairs Graduate Assistant for Wellness will be responsible for support and program development for the Department of Campus Recreation, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Judicial Affairs and the University Health Center. This role requires the GA to be on-site for programming during evening and weekend hours.

  • Develop outreach Presentations to campus community on various Wellness topics such as Stress Management, Alcohol Awareness, Sexual Assault, Fitness, and Nutrition
  • Provide direct outreach to students at various health fairs and via "tables" in campus community centers (i.e., dining halls, the nest, campus events, etc.)
  • Maintain daily hours in the Wellness Resource Center and/or the Self-Care ?Center in the Student Health Center to provide one on one interaction with students
  • Coordinate with community wellness resources to establish relationships and potential campus speakers
