Purpose of Position: Responsible for inbound and outbound distribution including procurement of transportation services for the movement of liquid bulk, Blue Def and other product lines and packaged goods via rail, motor carrier and air. Continue development of carrier base and transportation procedures. The position requires continuous monitoring of activity to maximize service, while reducing cost.Job Functions: Negotiate competitive rates with all service providers. Preparation of freight costs analyses and implementation of customer specific programs Coordinate with production planning, sales, customer service and terminals to obtain on time shipping. Continue to develop and update carrier base to meet customer and vendor shipping requirements for truckload and carload both dry and liquid bulk. Issue routing guides to both terminal and vendor locations listing the order of carrier selections by order size, commodity and destination. Provide assistance in carrier procurement. Issue transportation resourcing information to Transportation Specialist for compilation. Quote freight expense to sales and purchasing for new or potential business. Coordinate with sales/customer service the specific customer notes to be included with customer master file, insuring that a cost quotes are protected. Negotiate freight claims to a conclusion, insuring collection of lost revenue from carrier for the failure to protect goods. Knowledge of transportation law and contract law along with sound written and oral communication skills will allow for a favorable conclusion. Issue hazardous material shipping requirements to all terminal’s and vendor locations that ship F.O.B. destination, reflecting the commodities listed as hazardous by federal regulations. The instructions must include proper shipping name, hazard, class, package group, placarding instructions, approved package type marking on packages, and allowable storage and quantity sizes by mode of transportation. Monitoring of shipment activities. Assist “TTR' terminals in procurement of equipment. Route all outbound loads for Non-TTR terminal locations. Coordinate the stop-off sequence of “Ship With' orders. Review Less than Truckload orders for destination and quantity and make routing decisions. Review open order report from each terminal to insure a carrier has been assigned and delivery schedule meets the customer’s requested delivery date. All shipments that have not been routed to meet standard transit times for arrival at customer location will be researched to determine the reason for delay. Initiate action to allow for on-time delivery or notify customer when delivery can be expected.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Five years transportation experience. Transportation, marketing or logistics degree preferred Knowledge of AS400 system, advanced spreadsheet in Windows, basic word processing required. Knowledge of transportation laws, freight tariffs, and distribution methods. Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, motivational, negotiating, financial, written and oral communication skills.
