This position is responsible for work activities associated with the construction, modification and maintenance of the company’s transmission/distribution class substations, generation facilities, and transmission customer facilities. The candidate for this position will work with minimal supervision and occasionally direct the activities of contractors. This individual must demonstrate technical competence in the installation, removal, modification and maintenance of protective relay circuits and equipment in substations and generation facilities while adhering to project scope and schedule. This individual must also understand three-phase currents and vector math in order to perform calibrations required to verify correct currents and potentials are being measured by protective relays. This individual will perform work activities that include wiring changes/additions and installation/removal of protective and control equipment including testing of that equipment. To ensure the integrity of protection and control circuits the candidate must be able to perform calibration and functional testing of protective relay control circuits (electromechanical and microprocessor based), installation and maintenance of SCADA equipment and installation and maintenance of power line carrier equipment. The expectation is that all work performed around energized circuits will be completed with no impact to customers. Candidate will perform work using Protection and Control Engineering drawings, written Functional Guidelines and appropriate testing procedures. The candidate must be familiar with the operation and use of relay test equipment including but not limited to single phase and three phase relay test sets, multifunction power meter, CT test equipment, digital multi-meter and other specialized test equipment. Candidate will also be responsible for adhering to regulatory requirements (NERC and/or SERC) and properly documenting test results. In addition to performing construction and maintenance activities the applicant will also assist with the installation of mobile substations/transformers or other temporary equipment as needed. Good interpersonal, planning, and coordinating skills are necessary. Ability to obtain CDL and the ability to obtain unescorted access to a nuclear generating facility is necessary. Ability to work from elevated positions and work in confined spaces.



Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required, Associate Degree in Electrical Theory strongly preferred
  • 0 to 2 years experience of industrial construction/ maintenance, utility substation construction/ maintenance or relay construction/ maintenance required.
  • Aptitude test is required.
