Campaign Manager
The Campaign Manager will be responsible for the oversight and updating and implementation of a campaign plan for the UC Irvine comprehensive fundraising campaign that will raise funds for the campus strategic initiatives and priorities including scholarships, endowed chairs, fellowships, professional school programs, selected capital projects and operating support. The incumbent will refine with campus leadership all aspects of the campaign plan and coordinate all fundraising and advancement activities for this high priority campaign effort.
The incumbent is also responsible together with senior University Advancement leadership for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individuals, corporations and foundations for major/leadership gifts ($100K up to $10 million) to support this campaign. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for building campus-wide consensus and support for the campaign effort. S/he works closely with legacy planning, principal gifts, selected campus-wide development units, annual programs and the campaign strategic initiative coordinators in collaboration with other senior leaders of the advancement team.

Specific Responsibilities:
Develop and write an updated campaign plan for the second half of the comprehensive campaign that articulates the campaign philosophy, strategies, themes and initiatives. Work closely with trustees, deans, and senior campus-wide development leaders to refine and finalize priorities, opportunities and strategies.
Develop and oversee a yearly business plan, including quarterly benchmarks for communications, events, prospect management, fundraising and stewardship, to secure private support related to the campaign.
Serve as the team leader for the campaign team.
In conjunction with University leadership, finalize the campaign strategy and set annual fundraising goals to achieve the priorities set out in the campaign plan.
Provide leadership for the comprehensive campaign by monitoring campaign progress, recommending changes to the campaign plan as appropriate, supervising the identification and cultivation of appropriate prospects at the special, major, and principal gift levels, preparing or reviewing solicitation strategies for major and principal gift prospects, and regularly reviewing progress of each strategy.
In collaboration with other senior advancement leadership, oversee and guide the preparation of written proposals, informational materials, planned gift illustrations, and other materials to secure major and principal gifts, including proposals to corporations and foundations.
Create, direct, and monitor a comprehensive development program for the campaign, which includes communications, events, alumni relations, annual giving, individual major and leadership gifts, corporate relations, foundation relations and stewardship program.
In collaboration with the Executive Director of Advancement Services, prepare monthly fundraising progress reports that compare year-to-date results to annual plans and annual results to the campaign plan, inform the Vice Chancellor of project status and deviation from goals, and supervise preparation of activity reports at individual and unit levels for management guidance.
Develop policies and procedures relating to all University fundraising initiatives and preparation of marketing materials for those efforts.
Staff the UCI Foundation Campaign Committee. Train volunteers and staff in campaign strategy and policies.
Develop and manage the implementation of processes that engage internal campus leadership and volunteer leadership in achieving campaign priorities and goals.
Develop the second half of a comprehensive $1 Billion campaign working with senior University Advancement leadership, volunteer leadership, key academic leaders, and initiative coordinators.
Serve as the team leader for creating and directing the structure, organization and implementation of the volunteer leadership council as appropriate and necessary to meet fund-raising objectives, including regular update and planning sessions with volunteer leadership.
Employ creative strategies to identify new major/leadership gift constituencies outside of traditional pools.
Identify opportunities for major/leadership gift prospects and donors to serve in meaningful volunteer roles when appropriate.
Work closely with estate and planned gifts, principal gifts, campus-wide development units, annual programs and the campaign strategic initiative coordinators.
Collaborate with UCI campus Development personnel and volunteers to successfully close major/leadership gifts, complying with appropriate policies and practices.
Engage campaign major/leadership gift prospects and volunteers in events and activities as appropriate.
Encourage and maintain close working relationships between the central University Advancement office and all other unit based Development organizations of the campus.
Relationships
Maintains a direct relationship with the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement for campaign vision and volunteer leadership activities while working in conjunction with the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Campus Development, Assistant Vice Chancellor of University Development and the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Academic Health Centers Advancement.
Maintains a collaborative working relationship with members of the Development Team to ensure effective coordination and support for school and program based efforts related to the campaign.
Staffs UCI Foundation Campaign Committee.
Maintains effective and collaborative working relationships with other departments in University Advancement.
Participates in the campus prospect management system and University Advancement planning meetings.
Scope
Is responsible for compliance with all UCI policies and procedures including but not limited to solicitation and acceptance of gifts, alumni and support group policies, and naming policies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor's degree is required, advanced degree preferred.
Ten years of progressively responsible development experience, preferably in higher education, including a strong documented record of gift solicitations in the million dollar or greater gift range.
Successful experience working with high capacity volunteer leaders, board members and university executive administrators to ensure an integrated, organized effort.
Understanding of academic, research and education functions and operating principles of a comprehensive research university.
Strong leadership skills to positively influence and engage in partnerships with Development staff, Deans and other senior campus Administrators.
Ability to conceptualize, design and implement a campaign program, including assessment of philanthropic potential to determine campaign capacity and goals. Ability to direct the design of strategies for cultivation and solicitation of donor prospects.
Ability to build consensus and cohesion within the campaign team.
Skill in communicating persuasively, both orally and in writing, about private gift fund-raising in general and in particular as it applies to campaign themes and promotion.
Encompass traits of good judgment, confidentiality and discretion in communicating with colleagues and constituents.
Knowledge of major research institutions is desirable.
Well organized, focused and goal-oriented.
