Akzo Nobel Coatings Inc. has an opening at its Columbus, Ohio facility for a Technical Information Specialist .

The Technical Information Specialist (TIS) is responsible for managing the incoming and outgoing flow of information for the Coil and Extrusion Laboratory, as well as other duties, satisfying the needs of both internal and external customer.

Conform with all Business Unit (BU), sub Business Unit (SBU), site and laboratory safety requirements and policies.

Create, distribute and maintain Product Data Sheets (PDS) as requested by various departments (QC, Sales, etc.).

Evaluate and approve customer "Code Approvals".

Serve as Technical Laboratory Document Control Manager.

Train backups for all TIS duties.

Maintain all documents associated with the duties of a TIS.

Support the import of incoming lab samples through contacts with importers and expediters.

Advise laboratory on USDA and NSF issues and submissions including:
a. Evaluate formula against NSF criteria; b. Interfacing with NSF, including proprietary disclosures; c. Maintaining any NSF certifications of AkzoNobel coil and extrusion coatings; d. Evaluate formula against USDA criteria for purposes of self-approval.

Support the FVC system.

Support Laboratory 6 Sigma, 5S and Process management efforts.

Prepare and record the e-mail distribution of formulas, PDS, and MSDS to AkzoNobel laboratories and businesses outside of the Columbus/Birmingham unit.

Manage the Storage and Distribution of Laboratory Notebook.

Possess a functional understanding of our Quality Management System's data integrity requirements, which includes meeting the requirements of ISO certification.

May include, at times, managing the creation of new raw material codes.

May include, at times, managing the issuance of EXP and intermediate codes.

Participate in a variety of interdepartmental groups.

Other duties as assigned.

Requires a BS degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry or Biology, with a preference towards a BS degree in Coatings or Polymer Science.

Must demonstrate proficiency in basic algebra and mathematics.

Must demonstrate ability to communicate in both written and spoken English.

Preference will be given to someone with: Laboratory experience (including basic formulating knowledge); Paint experience; Customer Service experience.

Must be able to understand technology and stay current on relevant technology.

Must be highly organized, self-motivated and independent.

Requires someone who has the ability to document work thoroughly and keep ready and detailed records.

Requires solid computer skills including working with web-based applications, such as our laboratory work request system and with a wide variety of software, such as the MS Office Suite and our formula management software.

Must be able to work varying hours and extend beyond "normal" working hours, as needed to properly satisfy customers.
