This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. They are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.

Retired military are usually ineligible for membership in the AF Reserves.

Retired military that have active AF Reserve assignments may apply provided they show assignment (position & unit) on their application.

1.

Visually inspects integrated avionics systems, equipment, and interface for evidence of loose or missing equipment, excessive heat, and equipment requiring modifications.

Prepares paper work to insure discrepancies found are included on work documents.

2.

Receives entire system(s) or any portion thereof along with work documents, using systems test devices, and performs needed tests.

As a portion of integrated system(s) tests, the incumbent operates, tests, and troubleshoot components. Observes and analyzes overall performance of the system(s) as well as specific item(s) under test.

3.

Accomplishes functional tests while aircraft is in run up condition.

Sits in cockpit and checks operational condition of systems through all modes of operation.

Opens cowling/panels and makes necessary adjustments and alignments and/or directs lower grade worker in the making of these adjustments while observing indicators in cockpit or indications of test equipment

4.

Works with factory representatives and/or systems or item managers or technicians in providing solutions to technical problems or in analysis of proposed modifications or changes to existing technical specifications or test parameters and the overall effect on the system(s).

5.

Performs as troubleshooter in shop areas in which work is being accomplished on various integrated system(s), components, and subsystems. Using a comprehensive knowledge, works with other employees involved in production of component and/or subsystems of complete systems (electronic, electrical, instrument).

In some instances, utilizes Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) to perform test on electronic integrated equipment to determine existence, nature, and location of malfunction.

THE HOURLY RATE FOR THIS POSITION IS: $25.79-$30.22.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1.

Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen out element)

2.

Knowledge of electronic theories and practices of one or more complex integrated systems such as fire control, inertial navigation, or automatic landing control systems; of integrated electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, optical, and mechanical systems; of such applications as radar, digital or analog computers, digital display devices, and of the technology and practices which integrate these components into a total functional system; and of mathematics including algebra and basic trigonometric functions to adapt standard function to the specific requirements of the integrated systems. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.

Skill in the set up and operation of computer controlled automated test equipment (ATE) and test stands, oscilloscopes (dual trace, storage, digitized), spectrum, network and distortion analyzers, frequency counters, and signal generators; in interpreting complex drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete integrated systems to recognize the function and interconnections of components, assemblies, subassemblies, and connecting cable harness; and in troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining electronic integrated systems where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of a large number of circuits and functions, and the interaction of subsystems which create malfunctions.

Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools such as screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, soldering irons, and micro soldering units.

5.

Ability to follow drawings for integrated electronic systems; to trace the effect of a change in one subsystem to other integrated subsystems and determine which controls and devices must be change or adjusted to compensate; and to repair, align, and adjust major integrated electronic systems such as inertial navigation systems, and automatic flight control, or fire control systems.

6.

Ability to use computer terminals to maintain records and document actions.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE

Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Other significant facts pertaining to this position are: May be required to work uncommon tours of duty.

Incumbent may be required to travel on commercial or military aircraft when TDY is needed.

Performs other related duties, as required.

This is a testing designated position (TDP).

The employee is subject to random drug testing.

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position.

Must meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements.

The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.

Work schedules will be so aligned to allow the individual to function fully on unit training assembly (UTA) weekends.
