The Coordinator of Student Conduct is one of four central Residential Life managers functioning as team to lead this dynamic area of campus. Residential Life is part of a comprehensive housing program focusing on delivering a great experience to our 6300 residential students in an urban setting.
Residential Life has recently engaged in a comprehensive strategic planning initiative that is transforming the residential experience. During the next two years, we are implementing a well being based Residential Curriculum. We are active partners in the development of our institution as a Strengths based campus for our undergraduates. The coordinator will lead initiatives including Behavior Motivation Interviewing, Bystander Education Training, and educational circles as part of our student conduct process. We will have a new 600 person residence hall opening fall 2013.

The ideal candidate has experience developing professional partnerships across an institution, coordinating large student data processes, familiarity with current student behavior trends and educational strategies, providing direct or functional supervision to full time staff, attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
While this position is focused on student conduct, it provides an excellent opportunity to engage in all aspects of residential life.
Position Description
This position will enhance, implement, and coordinate comprehensive student conduct processes in residential life. The coordinator will ensure a fair and a consistent student conduct process and is responsible for the education of students and staff regarding University expectations.
This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Residential Life.
Responsibilities:
Administration of Student Conduct Process 35%
Oversee conduct case management for 11 residential communities and maintain student conduct records through management of a computerized database.
Review all incident statements/reports, complaints, and correspondence to ensure reasonable consistency between staff and to insure appropriate due process.
Regular communication with UMPD Lieutenants and Community Investigation Detectives on residential issues, UMPD citations and confrontation and reporting procedures
Serve as appeal officer for all informal conferences.
Administer conduct decisions up to and including contractual relocation and termination.
Assist with the implementation of behavioral contracts.
Assist in the selection and development of the Residential Life Student Conduct Board. Train and coordinate the Student Conduct Board for formal hearings.
Liaison with Campus & Community 20%
Oversee and follow up on the interactions of the Security Monitor Program and the security monitor staff with residential staff and students through staff input, and regular contact with the Security Monitor Program Managers and the supervising Police Lieutenant for that program.
Coordinate the departments response to bias related incidents and reports of sexual assault.
Serve as liaison with University of Minnesota Police Department, area police departments, and allied law enforcement agencies, Security Monitor Program, Boynton Health Services, Student Legal Services, Student Conflict Resolution Center, University Counseling & Consulting Services, Aurora Center for Advocacy and Education, Student Conduct & Academic Integrity, Intercollegiate Athletics, and Campus Committee on Student Behavior.
Serve on various University committees such as Behavioral Consultation Team, the Disciplinary Review Committee, the University Crisis Response Team, the Bystander Education Committee, and the Alcohol Education committee.
Coordinate the crisis response actions for Housing & Residential Life on serious incidents (i.e. suicide attempts/completions, deaths) that occur in the residential communities.
Assist with background checks for campus volunteers, and people who are mandated to include history of student conduct for career and educational purposes.
Safety & Security 15%
Work with Central Security regarding the Security Cameras within the residential facilities and requests to review images for investigative purposes ensuring that university guidelines are followed.
Serve as the coordinator of duty cellular phone service within residential life.
Work collaboratively with police to address and notify students of any safety/security alerts and concerns as they occur.
Serve as the point person for any police investigations, warrants issued, serving as a resource for research and investigative information sought by the police.
Education & Training 10%
Coordinate research in the area of student conduct.
Serve as a consultant and resource to professional and student staff on student conduct matters including confrontation, adjudication, sanctioning, and intervention.
Responsible for training professional staff, student staff and security monitor staff on the student conduct process, crisis management, confrontation and policy enforcement.
Develop, implement, and coordinate the facilitation of the Alcohol Education Workshop and the Ethics Workshop. Provide assessment outcomes regarding attendance and repeat violators and make changes to curriculum as needed.
Responsible for providing current resource information to staff and students on the following topic areas: alcohol, controlled substances, domestic violence, suicide, gambling, death, and other social issues.
Responsible for the review and revision of residence hall regulations and their incorporation into the contract application process.
Coordinate all student conduct related information for staff manuals.
Residential Life Management Team Member 10%
Serve as one of four leaders within Residential Life to provide oversight and direction to building staff.
Participate in weekly Residential Life Management Team meetings and regular Residential Life staff meetings.
Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Masters degree in College Student Personnel or other related field. Two years full-time, post Masters residential life, student conduct or related experience. Experience working with a discipline system within a college, university or housing system. Excellent oral and written skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in housing/residential student conduct or managing a system wide judicial database system. An ability to demonstrate commitment to Diversity and Social Justice.
