With an estimated population of 420,185, the City of Oakland is the eighth largest city in the State of California, and serves as the administrative hub of the County of Alameda and the center of commerce and international trade for the Bay Area region. Oakland is a full service city with and overall funds budget of about 1 billion and a general fund budget of 430 million. and operates as a Mayor-Council form of government. The Mayor appoints a City Administrator, subject to confirmation by the Council. The City Administrator serves as the Chief Administrative Officer of the City. The CIO reports to the City Administrator and is responsible for the day-to-day management and leadership of the Department of Information Technology. The Department has a current staff of 67 and an operating budget of about 14 million and is responsible for comprehensive communications and information systems programs and services throughout the City and its various Departments and Agencies. The Department has four main divisions Administration, Infrastructure Systems, Public Safety Systems, and Enterprise Application Systems.

Qualifications In addition to a Bachelor's degree in computer sciences, information systems management, business administration, public administration, or a related field, the ideal candidate should have at least five years of senior level administrative, management and professional experience in information systems management, telecommunications, or network management. Experienceability in leveraging and advancing social media, applications, platforms, etc and integration of social media, phones and other wireless devices is also important. An ideal candidate would also have an understanding of traditional local government CIO work while at the same time being excited, knowledgeable and willing to improve the City's systems and the way it can communicate to be more efficient. Excellent benefits package and salary range of 123,946 to 185,919.
