Job Summary/Responsibilities:
The Communications Officer 1 receives and responds to law enforcement information by telephone, teletype, two-way radio, and other telecommunications equipment, and disseminates and/or transmits information to appropriate personnel; receives and transmits information on motor vehicle accidents, fatalities, and hazardous weather conditions and handles communication requests for driver's license identifications, motor vehicle title and registration identification, wanted or missing persons identifications, stolen property identification, criminal history information, and wrecker and ambulance services; receives direct supervision from the LSU Police Department, Communications Division, Police Lieutenant or supervisor of higher rank. This position describes the typical duties/work setting of the job. The actual duties and percentage effort/duty for this position may vary slightly and the incumbent may be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
No previous specialized experience or training is required. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All persons appointed to this job will be required by the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Louisiana State Police Terminal Operator Certification Program Guidelines to meet the terminal operator certification/re-certification requirement within six months of employment. An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Special Requirements:
Must have a Civil Service score for the 9000-COAST Behavior Assessment and the 9001-COAST Office Skills exam unless currently occupying a Civil Service job in the COAST Test Series with permanent status or re-employment eligibility. This position requires a current Louisiana Class "E" driver's license. If you have a current out-of-state driver's license and you are hired, you must acquire a Louisiana Class "E" driver's license and submit a copy of your license to the department prior to your hire date. Please scan and attach a copy of your driver's license with the application. If you are unable to attach a copy with the application, you must bring a copy if called in for an interview. Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of appointment.
