Chevron North America Exploration and Production (CNAEP) is accepting online applications for the position Automation Engineer located in Houston, Texas through January 31, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. (EST).
Chevron North America Exploration Production’s MidContinent Alaska (MCA) Business Unit consists of diverse assets across ten states (primarily Texas, New Mexico. Oklahoma, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and Alabama). These assets are a mixture of typical oil production operations that include several CO2 floods, water floods, natural gas plants, conventional gas operations and tight gas production. MCA has established an automation organization which is focused on transforming the way assets are developed and operated by combining new work processes with advanced technology and new skill sets. This position will involve working with the Facility Engineering Group and Operations to support a queue of large and small projects focused on optimizing production, improving operational efficiency, and reducing spills.
The qualified candidate will be responsible for automation engineering functions that support MCA operations including design, evaluation and optimization of automation systems, plus design and technical support of PLC equipment applications in field operations. The focus on transformation will also require developing and implementing new solutions and standards, as well as maximizing the value of existing technologies and solutions. Candidates for this position should have knowledge of oilfield operations and be able to coordinate activities with a broad group of interests, including operations, facility engineering, HES, and Information Technology.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
Manage Contract Engineers and Electrical Construction Representatives
Automation Systems design across entire value chain from field devices to business applications.
Installation and troubleshooting support of various PLC and Electronic Flow Measurement (EFM) equipment.
Train and mentor operations and engineering users of SCADA data
Design communication networks and implement wireless serial and Ethernet communications systems
Support field operations on issues concerning safety, regulatory and industry codes related to electrical systems and SCADA equipment.
Work with internal and external resources to manage SCADA systems to optimize operation’s work processes and automate field process control and safety systems
Coordinate deployment of SCADA systems with technical teams, Information Technology group, business support groups, deployment teams, measurement teams and production operations groups.
Provide project management and capital stewardship in the planning and execution of Automation projects.
Coordinate SCADA implementation activities with operations and facility engineering.
Implement systems that comply with Process Control Network Information Protection requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or Chemical Engineering
Minimum 5 years experience required. Certifications in Control Systems Logic, and or Wireless Systems design a plus.
Demonstrates highest safety & environmental performance and leadership traits. Must be proactive in addressing safety issues and have a proven track record of strong support of processes that support Incident Free Operations. Have proven track record on automations system design and operations.
Ability to work effectively (minimal supervision) in a diverse, multidiscipline team environment. History of project success and working with complex processes and organizations. Employ organizational skills, managing diverse workload for multiple customers.
Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to effectively communicate with management, customers and direct reports. Should have the ability to recognize communication gaps and appropriately address them.
Demonstrated project management skills. Experience in managing multiple small to medium-sized projects.
Demonstrated Instrumentation Monitoring and Controls Engineering Experience at both project and support level.
Experienced in design, fabrication, installation and commissioning of instrument and control, fire and gas and ESD systems for onshore oil and gas facilities and plants.
Prior operational Instrumentation and Control support experience is desired. Experience with API RP 14C is helpful but not required.
