The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, Airfield Maintenance, is seeking a qualified Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic Specialist.

The incumbent in this position is a full journey level heavy duty mechanic specialist. Duties include troube shooting, analyzing and repairing gasoline and diesel engines; repairing and rebuilding drive train components, gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and other mechanical systems of heavy construction, snow removal and ARFF equipment. This position is responsible for the diagnosis and repairing of electrical system failures. Additional duties include performing roadside service on equipment; performing daily maintenance, service and safety inspections; and maintaining shop records including work orders, parts order forms, and timesheets.

Applicants must have five years of documented experience in maintenance and repair of all systems on heavy duty construction and snow removal equipment.

Must be knowledgeable in welding/fabrication and various kinds of heavy equipment electrical, hydraulics, fuel injection, air, engine, transmission power train and electronic engine and transmission ECM systems. Equipment maintained includes dump trucks, loaders, back hoes, snow removal equipment, sweepers, dozers, brush cutters and light duty vehicles.

Applicant must possess a Class A CDL without the following restrictions: E, L, N, O and 7. Tanker and (P) Passenger are required and must be obtained within 90 days of hire. Also must obtain a TSAIA ramp, taxiway and runway driver's permit within 90 days of hire. Pre-Employment Drug testing is required and this position falls under the Random Drug Testing for CDL holders.

Applicant(s) must be capable of communicating clearly in English via a 2-way radio. Applicant(s) will possess the ability and experience in the use of sophisticated diagnostic and testing equipment used to troubleshoot and repair vehicles' computerized electronic control systems.

Applicant(s) will be tested for proficiency.
