UW Medicine Information Technology Services department is a shared services organization, which supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, UW School of Medicine, and UW Physicians Network. The IT Services organization is responsible for ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the mission of patient care, research and teaching.
UW Medicine IT Services is looking for an outstanding ENTERPRISE ORACLE DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR to join our team! The Oracle DBA performs what is necessary to keep the system functional and performing well on a day-to- day basis and ensures the reliability, security, and performance of the system. Specific responsibilities at the highest level of current technologies:
Accountable for Operational Health of Assigned System(s)
Administer large databases supporting clinical applications which, in turn, support patient care. Take assignment of database systems and be accountable for the overall health of those systems.
Design, develop, document, analyze, build and test system functionality as governed by application team (and end user) functional requirements or operational (or service) level agreements.
Design and document standard maintenance and operational procedures. Monitor those procedures to verify they are performed regularly. Plan, develop and monitor the security and availability of the database system.
Based on user requirements, design and monitor the performance of the database system. Take corrective action to ensure appropriate service levels.
Plan, implement and test the recoverability of the system. Ensure high levels of availability.
Maintain high technical literacy for the functions the incumbent is responsible for, including (but not limited to) database technologies and administration, clustered systems, performance, troubleshooting and relevant systems administration.
Maintain (create, update and communicate) documentation on system configuration to other administrators. Train others where needed.
Maintain (create, update and communicate) architectural documentation.
Maintain up to date documentation on support and operational procedures. Ensure operational procedures are followed.
Plan for and assist in developing business resumption procedures and practices.
Work with database vendors to provide excellent incident remediation.
Report regularly operational metrics as required. Analyze trends.
Prepare and execute maintenance plans. Provide Support for Other Systems
Assist as a backup to other systems to ensure continuous coverage of support.
Participate in on call rotations. Provide Technical Expertise and Assistance
Participate in technical planning with project managers, architects or as needed.
Mentor other administrators: provide guidance on best practices, technical trends and valuable resources. Be prepared to give feedback on other staff in the spirit of growing their skills.
Participate in required program meetings and weekly planning meetings. May be asked to participate in other meetings as required.
Be capable of leading troubleshooting exercises or incident teams. May be asked to lead a group of peers to resolve urgent issues.
Participate on Project Teams
Provide assistance for larger projects.
Provide leadership in operational projects. Manage risks, issues, communications and necessary documentation.
Document problems and issues as required.
Document project time if required.
Provide Other Administrative Support
Provide cost estimates for budgeting and project purposes.
Provide regular status updates for work being performed.
Produce specifications and quotations for needed purchases as required.
Competitive candidates will have:
Experience with large academic healthcare enterprise projects or operations.
Experience with Tivoli Storage Manager.
Bourne, Korn, or PERL scripting experience.
Experience with Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM).
Experience with Oracle 11g.
Experience working with complex storage environments.

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Mathematics, Engineering, or similar. Equivalent experience may substitute for degree requirement.
Significant (3+ years) primary database administration on large scale database systems providing critical business functions.
Significant (5+ years) experience administering Oracle (9i or newer) databases.
Familiarity (1+ year) with systems administration practices. Must understand complexities of installation of a database on large-scale hardware and storage platforms.
Experience (2+ years) of administering databases in a highly available environment. Must be capable of installing and supporting Oracle’s Real Application Clusters (RAC).
Experience (2+ years) with Oracle RMAN backup and recovery technologies.
Experience (2+ years) with Oracle Data Guard.
Condition of Employment:
Daily response to customer demands within imposed deadlines is required.
The individual in this position is expected to work normal daytime hours. However, significant off-hours and weekends may be needed to resolve problems and to support implementation and maintenance activities. This individual is also expected to be available for call on a 24x7 basis as needed.
Requires the ability to lift and transport equipment of over 40 pounds.
