Performs advanced-level machining and fabricating work to repair and maintain equipment and machinery at Saint Paul Regional Water Services. Designs and plans component parts to be manufactured, replaced, or repaired at the Treatment Plant. Purchases necessary raw materials to perform work. Sets up and operates a variety of tools required to do machining work. Fabricates parts and components. Uses acetylene and arc welding equipment to shape and create desired components. Works with vendors to obtain desired materials or components parts. Selects specialty shops to perform specialty services as needed. Prepares quotes and requisitions for capital equipment and replacement machinery parts and tools. Performs related work as assigned.

Requirements:
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate and successful completion of a two-year vocational school machine tool technology program or equivalent, and completion of an apprenticeship training program approved by the State Division of Apprenticeship, or an equivalent toolmaker training program.
Or, High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate and four (4) years of full-time, journey-level experience as a toolmaker.
Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License, or equivalent out-of-state driver's license. The driver's license must have no suspensions or revocations for driving-related offenses within the two-year period prior to the date of appointment. Suspensions for parking-related offenses are excluded.

Selection Process Information:
Exam Subject: Assessment Process - A multiple component examination designed to evaluate your ability to perform duties of the position. The exam components include:
Written Examination: This exam consists of multiple-choice and true/false questions developed to assess your knowledge of toolmaking. The written exam is tentatively scheduled for 9:00 AM on Friday, January 18, 2013 in Room 40 A/B in the basement of City Hall, 15 West Kellogg, Saint Paul, MN . An email will be sent to those who qualify with confirmation of date and time in addition to more specific details.

Practical Examination: A pplicants who successfully pass the Written Exam will continue to the Practical Exam. Applicants will be required to successfully perform functions similar to those routinely performed in this position which include, but are not limited to, manual milling, engine lathe, and welding. Candidates who achieve a passing score of 75% on the Written Exam will be provided specific exam information including date, time, location and a list of tools you will need to bring with you to the Practical Exam. The Practical Exam is tentatively scheduled for a Saturday in early February 2013.
