Job Descriptions:
Americold, the leading provider of temperature controlled distribution services to the food industry is seeking top talent to join our Financial Planning & Analysis team as our Business Unit Reporting & Analysis Director. This position is based in Atlanta, GA.

Primary Responsibility:
The purpose of this position is to lead the FP&A function of the operational field support team of 8 Finance Managers. Leadership includes ensuring that the field-based Finance Managers are supporting the Regional Vice Presidents of Operations and are helping them operate and make decision on their business based on quantitative, fact-based, information.

Essential Functions:
1. Function as the main liaison between Corporate and the field managers (e.g. General Managers, Regional Vice Presidents, Chief Operations Officer, etc.)
2. Prepare weekly and monthly management reports summarizing operating results for the period including both financial and non-financial data, and clear and concise written variance explanations

3. Review operating results for the assigned region(s) with field managers, challenge the results, and discuss ways to help them improve, and participate in designing and implementing such plans

4. Conduct variance analysis from budget and prior year
a. Isolate drivers of sales and occupancy changes
b. Isolate drivers of changes in productivity and labor costs

5. Utilize business unit profitability and/or customer profitability studies to help management understand the drivers of the business and make recommendations for price, volume, operational changes needed to meet company objectives

6. Provide training and coaching to the field managers on accounting and finance issues and to work jointly with the assigned Regional Vice Presidents and General Managers on any business decisions that may directly or indirectly affect the financial health of the region

7. Communicate with the Regional Vice Presidents, and facility General Managers to help them understand the major drivers of variances and guide them on running more efficient operations

8. Complete annual budgets and 12-months rolling forecasts for each facility, and/or each assigned region(s)

9. Plan, study and collect data not available within the system to complete assigned projects, and make recommendations to management

10. Oversee the partnership with Accounting on the month-end closing for regions and warehouses

11. Assist in ad-hoc audits of field accounting to assure adherence to corporate policy and procedures and help improve current processes to gain more efficiencies

12. Analyze changes in workflow, systems, procedures, incentives, and services provided, to determine impacts on costs

13. Generate capital project proposals with detailed analysis on the merit of the proposal as well as conduct analysis to determine the true return versus the promised return

14. Participate in the analysis of sales proposals made by the assigned region(s)

15. Participate and take leading roles in major company initiatives

16. Work closely with other functional departments such as IT, Sales, Supply Chain Solutions and Engineering on assigned projects and explanation of operational variances
17. Other duties as requested

Required Experience:
Q`ualifications & Experience:
Education, Training & Professional Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting is required, MBA and/or CPA preferred
  • Must have at least 8 years of total experience including at least 3 year’s experience with operational or manufacturing accounting (or regional finance support)
  • Strong computer skills required, specifically, experienced with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Access
  • Experience with SAP modules, including BPC, is desired
  • Must be able to identify areas of opportunity and execute without specific direction from direct manager

  • Ability to synthesize relevant information to draw conclusions

  • Some travel required (~10%)
