Under the supervision of the Unit Director, assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents the care of all assigned patients. Cares for patients with a variety of acute to critical medical/surgical problems ranging from infants to geriatrics at various developmental levels. Patients are from both traditional and nontraditional family structures with a variety of sociocultural and educational backgrounds.
Utilizes critical thinking and the nursing process to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and provide nursing care of acutely ill and critical patients within the framework of their licensure and established hospital guidelines including appropriate documentation.
Manages critical patient care within the parameters of physician orders or emergently in the absence of a physician including but not limited to:
a)Assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention, planning, evaluating and documenting care of the critically ill patient requiring intensive care and monitoring.
b)Infusion/titration therapy of critical care drugs including hemodynamic and thrombolytic medication administration and conscious sedation.
c)Coronary care, monitoring, and management of arrhythmias.
d)Ventilator support and monitoring.
e)Hemodynamic and neurodynamic monitoring, management, and supportive care.
f)Neurological patient care monitoring.
g)Surgical patient care and monitoring.
h)Care and monitoring of dialysis patient (CRRT).
Knowledge of nursing theory and practice acquired through completion of an accredited school of nursing to be eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Nebraska. BSN degree preferred.
Current Nebraska license as a Registered Nurse. ACLS certification required within six months of hire, PALS certification required within one year of hire. Trauma Nurse Core Care certification required within one year.
