Plastics / Molding Engineer

Position Responsibilities

Responsible for the execution of the molding strategy in the US (part classification, supplier classification (molders & toolmakers),

insource/outsource decisions, risk mitigation including mold back-up, maintenance,

management of tools

). Upgrade and maintain the mold data base, mold makers, and molded parts classification.

Support operations and suppliers with technical expertise on injection molding processes and molding tool design for root cause analysis and corrective action. Lead teams in problem resolution and tools enhancement and/or replacement.

Partner with R&D for new mold development. Ensure that new molds are designed for product reliability and robust molding & assembling process. Ensure alignment with the molding strategy (selection of supplier, resin, and mold maker).

Ensure that risk assessments on molded parts and mold tools are performed by the suppliers using a standard protocol.

Perform annual technical audits of critical molds. Define short and long term action plans.

Establish and communicate relevant metrics to Operations, Supplier Quality, and Corporate Procurement.

Initiate annual plastic part reviews with suppliers, Corporate Procurement, Operation and supplier Quality.

Ensure that the right specifications and controls are in place. As necessary, provide training to suppliers on MM product application and process.

·

Develop a molded parts road map by product family to support risk mitigation, support of new product programs, and projects initiated by Corporate Procurement (e.g., cost down, resin changes, new supplier).

·

Identify opportunities for improvements in cost, product reliability and process robustness.

·

Manage MM-owned tools in the US, including maintenance schedule and budget. Recommend maintenance and action, and integrate budget into annual planning process.

·

Ensure capital project are completed in a timely, efficient, and financially responsible manner in order to maximize return.

·

Insure that Corporate Procurement is aware of all communications to the supplier.

·

Lead or support (as appropriate) the selection of new resins due to end of life or other high risk concerns.

Serve as subject matter expert in various molding technologies for the separations technology cluster

.

Qualifications

Education, Qualifications & Working Conditions

Bachelor's degree in Plastic or Molding Engineering and 10 years of proven experience in Molding Manufacturing Engineering or R&D mold development.

Demonstrated technical leadership and a depth of functional and technical experience and expertise regarding plastic parts .

Ability to redesign plastic molded components and/or molds in order to improve product reliability and molding or assembly process improvement.

Significant project management experience. Ability to organize, communication, plan, and execute vision by involving all relevant stakeholders (both MM personnel, contractors, and vendors).

Proven ability to analyze program needs and determine resources needed to meet objectives.

Demonstrated ability to manage relationships at all levels (executive to operator), with specific expertise and demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate and persuade at all management levels and thrive in a cross-functional environment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present and discuss information in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others, and gains understanding.

Demonstrated experience in working successfully in large, complex organizations, balancing multiple assignments and deliverables simultaneously.

Self-motivated person with the drive to overcome barriers to change and take initiative with minimal management oversight.
