Assists in providing care to internal and external customers using a friendly, prompt and caring manner. Assists the Registered Nurse in developing a plan of care. Provides assistance and directly participates in the implementation of the plan of care. Assists the RN in evaluating the effectiveness of the plan of care.
Implements clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with established procedures and current level of training. Considers the age of the patient when intervening with proper technique and safety precautions to meet the individual needs of the patient.
Assists in providing direct care to patients with complicated medical problems and assists in the care of adult and pediatric in critical conditions, under the direct supervision of the physician or RN.
Performs treatments or assists in treatments and procedures, such as insertion of intravenous catheters, wound care, foley catheterization, and doing oral suctioning under physician and/or RN supervision.
Observes patients and documents information according to prescribed hospital policy and procedure.
Keeps the RN and/or physician informed of changes in the condition of patients and/or other pertinent observations.
Accurately obtains necessary demographic information, makes corrections as necessary. Prints registration forms for ED and inpatients. Obtains signatures. Completes duties of Emergency Department Clerk and assists with clerical functions as indicated.
Recognizes a crisis and appropriately intervenes accordingly.
Provides open channels of communication with the RN, physician, Supervisor of Customer Assistance/ Insurance Verification, and other interdisciplinary team members.
Promotes and utilizes skills to optimize interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, and staff.
Keeps patient information confidential and respects the patient’s right to privacy.
Assists in maintaining a clean, safe environment for patients and co-workers.
Transports patients to other departments, as required.
Participates cooperatively with team members to insure adequate staffing and workload balance.
Participates with co-workers in educational programs to maintain a high quality of practice and shares obtained information accordingly.
Obtains medical records.
May administer medications under the supervision of a RN or physician recognizing the need to adjust dosages according to the age of the patient. There will be a mas ter medication list located in ED of stating which medications a paramedic can use.
May administer medications by the following routes: oral, sublingual in tramuscular, subcutaneous, endotracheal, intravenous and IVPB.
May perfom oral, nasal and endotracheal suctioning under the supervision of a RN or physician.
Will maintain current American Heart Association ACLS certification and may perform ACLS skills as needed.
Placement of combitube.
Basic Computer skills.
Time Management Skills.
Willing to participate in the orientation program based on his/her indvidual needs.
Participates in inservices and unit meetings on a regular basis.
Adequately and competently completes all competencies of specific skills required.
High School Graduate or equivalent, including the ability to read, write and comprehend medical terminology.
Completion of a Paramedic program.
Prefer EMS background.
