The U School is a new high school of choice opening in Philadelphia in fall 2014. Together we will build a rich learning experience built upon a commitment to utilize a multitude of skills, strategies and tools to guide student learning.
Below are the current positions at the U School. These positions are not set in stone, but represent the needs of the model. If you feel this is a space for you, and can work to acquire certifications, do not let it influence your decision to apply.
·English/Social Studies w/Art (Highlight or Organize Lab Leader)
·Math/Chemistry/Physics (Build Lab Leader)
·Special Education (English/Math/Art) (Highlight or Organize Lab Leader)
Every candidate must be flexible, creative, curious, resilient, committed to growth and passionate about student success.
The U School faculty will act as a classroom teacher, a mentor and community leader.
·Provides targeted instruction, which encourages students to use reading, writing, listening, speaking and viewing as tools for inquiry-based learning.
·Creates a classroom environment in which students have access to reading and writing materials that address their needs and interests.
·Design and implement an interdisciplinary and scaffolded curriculum
·Teach content sections
·Facilitate and oversee interest-based/design-thinking learning experiences as a Workshop lead
·Integrate technology as a pedagogical tool
·Mentor 15-24 students (facilitate the development of student learning plans)
·Engage in professional practice dialogues through observation and inquiry
·Assist in the development and implementation of an interdisciplinary curriculum
·Assist in the development and reiteration of the school model, which includes the development and implementation of school policies
·Participate in weekly team and school leadership meetings
·Participate in summer training, planning and practice (4 weeks summer of 2014) (July 8-August 5)
·Participate in Summer Bridge as part of summer training
·Applicants must possess at least a Bachelor's degree and a teaching credential in the certification areas for which they are applying.
·Experience with design-thinking preferred
·For Lab/Workshop Leader positions experience engineering, media development or organizing preferred.
Demonstrated ability to:
·Facilitate inquiry-based learning as well as whole class, small group and individual instruction, driven by student needs.
·Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
·Teaching experience in their field (at least 2 years preferred)
·Success creating dynamic learning experiences for students
·Proven track record of leading students to high academic achievement
·A positive, solutions-oriented attitude and drive for excellence
·Ability to work with heterogeneously grouped students
·Ability to connect with and educate ethnically and economically diverse students
·Ability to work independently and thrive in a new, dynamic institution
·An entrepreneurial spirit, embracing the opportunity for creativity and hard work inherent in a start-up
·Self reflective and open to feedback, with the ambition and desire to grow as an educator

Compensation and Benefits
Educators will be compensated at the School District of Philadelphia rate corresponding with experience and degrees.
