Quinnipiac Univeristy invites applications for the position of Assistant Chief of Public Safety to assist the Chief of Public Safety in implementing and managing the Public Safety function at Quinnipiac, including supervising campus security officers, direct officer training, and be responsible for crime prevention in accordance with federal, state, and University regulations. Supervise all public safety personnel, including contract personnel on his/her shift to insure proper procedures and policies are being carried out. Assume the responsibilities of the Chief in his/her absence as directed.

Hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Planning, directing and managing the assigned activities of the Public Safety Department.

Initiating administrative and command leadership when such action is necessary to fulfill public safety responsibility.

Disseminating orders, policies and procedures to all assigned supervisors and personnel.

Ensuring the adherence to these policies and procedures and the proper performance of duties by each member of the public safety department

Making recommendations concerning the hiring, disciplining and terminating of employees of the department.

Enforcing rules and regulations among assigned supervisors and personnel.

Reporting violations of policies and procedures.

The immediate relief or suspension from duty of any employee of the department when it is necessary to protect the welfare of the employee, the integrity of the department, or the safety of the campus community as provided for in these regulations and in accordance with applicable University Policies.

Providing continuous command and supervision in the absence of the Chief of Public Safety.

Working closely with and providing leadership to employees.

Providing functional supervision for employees not directly under the Public Safety Supervisor supervision.

Providing job training to ensure proper performance by assigned personnel.

Performing other related duties as assigned by the Chief of Public Safety.

Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants:
Education and Training Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Public Safety Administration or a related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience as a supervisor; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed. Successful candidates should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidates must possess outstanding interpersonal skills which will allow them to build and maintain effective working relationships with members of the Quinnipiac Department of Public Safety and other law enforcement agencies.

Preferred Qualifications:
Have experience and knowledge in the areas of work place safety, event management, Homeland Security, risk management, emergency management.

Communication Skills:
Public speaking and policy development experience. Demonstrated experience in employee performance management and staff development. Proven ability in program and project development and implementation. Ability to effect organizational change and improvement.

Reasoning Skills:
Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.

Computer Skills:
Advanced computer knowledge within area of responsibility. Frequent: use equipment utilized by The University Public Safety Department, Desk Top and Lap Top Computers and multi-line telephone.
