Cargill Value Added Meats Retail facilities utilize state-of-the-art beef, pork and turkey processing capabilities to deliver high-quality meat products to our partners. Advanced technologies and imaginative people create innovative solutions and distinctive value for our customers. Our retail customers come to us from traditional grocers, supermarkets and warehouse clubs to provide their meat and deli needs. We provide innovative solutions for their fresh meat case, frozen meat departments, deli counters, and more.

Our turkey processing facility in Dayton, Va., has an opportunity

for a 1st shift Maintenance Area Manager. The purpose of this position is to oversee multi-shift maintenance operations in a 24-7 maintenance environment. They will be responsible for planning, scheduling, reliability, parts, and training of safety of personnel. Responsible for the communication and engagement of employees and enforcing policy. Reports directly to the Engineering Manager. Will be held accountable for a fixed budget, safety and housekeeping, and using existing maintenance management systems effectively. Must be a strong proponent of food safety, housekeeping, reliability philosophy and safety. Must be able to judge and evaluate people. Must take ownership of the shop area and be a leader that can motivate others and their peers. Would have some responsibility for minor capital projects related to safety, processing equipment of improvement of process. Responsible for the administration and discharge of any AIL’s that the department is given. Manages the supervisors on all shifts (3 total salaried) AIL’s and the workflow process. Will be expected to hold weekly staff meetings, execute pass down, understand production flow and the impact on production. Must be able to make independent decisions and act as an emergency coordinator or incident commander on short notice or in the absence of all other leadership. Must truly be considered a partner and a customer oriented leader in a service organization.

Principle Accountabilities:
50% Oversee all responsibilities of a multi-shift maintenance operations in a 24-7 maintenance environment. Responsible for troubleshooting, staffing, planning, scheduling, reliability, parts, contractors, and training of safety of personnel. Responsible for the communication and engagement of employees and enforcing policy. Accountable for a fixed budget, safety and housekeeping, and using existing maintenance management systems effectively. Oversee departmental food safety, housekeeping, reliability philosophy and safety.

25% Administration and discharge of any AIL’s (action item lists) that the department is given, and attend meetings related to tasks or measurement of the results.

20% Oversee capital projects as assigned. Assist with implementation of plant capital projects relating to equipment and processing. Provides resources to those project managers as needed.

5% Participate in inspections, audits and BBS observations as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Associates Degree.

Five years of maintenance experience at some level.

Basic computer skills – Word, Excel, Outlook

One year or more in a reliability related role.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors Degree (Engineering field a plus)

Food processing experience, primarily poultry.

CMRP

More advanced computer skills including AutoCad, etc.
