You will be subject to a background/suitability investigation. DUTIES:

This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed represent the full performance level of GS-5. At the GS-4 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds. Promotion is not guaranteed and no promise of promotion is implied.

This position is located in Purchased Care at the Health Administration Center in the Document Control and Data Management Department in Denver, CO. Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • examines documents and makes determinations such as send for processing;
  • barcodes the document as correspondence;
  • routes documents to another section/division;
  • returns the document to sender;
  • ensures all pertinent data required for the input of claims is present;
  • determines the quality is satisfactory for scanning;
  • performs address updates/entering address changes;
  • processes mail;
  • access a voice messaging systems and enters the information being requested into a computer program so that orders can be filled;
  • responsible for the receipt of checks;
  • assists in performing light maintenance duties on office equipment;
  • assist with service calls on equipment (copier and faxes, etc.) to include changing of toner and troubleshooting reported problems; and
  • undertakes necessary administrative and other related duties as assigned or requested.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 8:30a.m. to 5p.m.

GS-4 Qualifications

1 year of General Experience : Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of Program Support Clerk.

NOTE: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

OR

Education : Successfully completed 2 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED.

OR

Combining Education and Experience : Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. (i.e. 6 months of general experience and 1 year of education above the high school level). TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED.

You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position:

  • Knowledge of office automation software and hardware.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures, practices and policies.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate in verbal and written formats.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Long periods of sitting in one location are required in completing actions, using a CRT, X-term or other computer system. Depending in functions performed, the work can be primarily sedentary, or require prolonged standing, stooping, bending, and lifting containers of mail weighing up to 20 pounds. Use of a computer, printing equipment and photocopying equipment is extensive.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in an office setting, but one that is considerably noisier, and stressful than a typical office. Work is also performed in an office setting, mail operations, or imaging/scanning area. Various electrical equipment is utilized throughout the division.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
Applicants will be ranked based on four quality groups, as follows:

Best qualified - applicants possessing experience that substantially exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are highly proficient in all requirements of the job and can perform effectively in the position;

Highly qualified - applicants possessing experience that exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in most of the requirements of the job;

Well qualified - applicants possessing experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in some, but not all, of the requirements of the job; and

Qualified - applicants possessing experience and/or education that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors.

After the vacancy announcement closes, reviewed applications are evaluated against the questionnaire responses and placed in the appropriate quality group. Qualified veterans will be afforded preference by being placed at the top of the appropriate quality group. Qualifying veterans with a service-connected disability of 10% or more will be placed at the top of the best qualified group.
