The John D. Dingell VAHealthcare Systemis currently seeking a dynamic, experienced nurse leader for our Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive (ADPCS) position who will have responsibility for the following areas: Nursing Service, Pharmacy, Nutrition and Food Service, Respiratory Section, Social Work Section, Chaplain Section, Voluntary Section. The individual selected for this key leadership position will be a member of the Executive Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Medical Center Director. As a fully integrated member of the Quadrad, the Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive participates with leaders from the governing body in the ongoing review of the Medical Center 's mission, strategic planning, budget requirements, resource acquisition and utilization, operation plans and policy development. The Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive has responsibility and accountability for planning, directing and coordinating the nursing care provided throughout the Medical Center and in our Community-Based Outpatient Clinics. He/she serves as the chief spokesperson and advisor for all organized nursing services and is the catalyst for the integration and collaboration of nursing with other professional disciplines in the mutual achievement of patient-centered and organizational goals. He/she will plan, develop and maintain comprehensive nursing programs to ensure compliance with VA Directives, Joint Commission, and other internal and external regulatory requirements. This individual will provide executive-level organizational and leadership skills to develop and mentor a highly effective, diverse workforce, to improve overall health care system operations, to promote an environment that supports excellence in customer service, and to support facility and VISN strategic planning initiatives. The successful candidate must demonstrate exceptional communication skills and role model transformational leadership skills. Previous experience in leading/directing nursing services in a complex organization is highly desirable.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6)
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Master's Degree in Nursing or related field with BSN or a Bachelors Degree in a related field with approximately 5-6 years of experience or Doctoral degree (preferred) in Nursing or related field with approximately 4-5 years of experience. Experience includes progressively responsible leadership assignments with administration, educational, clinical, research, and/or other related health care service. Specialty certification in Nursing Administration is also preferred. Must meet regulatory qualification standards as identified in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Appendix G.

Preferred Experience: A Nurse leader with clinical and administrative skills and experience. Ability to improve nursing services and function as an authority in system redesign, management, care management, and proactive patient driven care.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel.

The criteria are as follows:
Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization;
Professional Development: performance, education/career development;
Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality;
Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.
