Overview:
Working closely with the production management/staff and receiving department, the Quality Control/Ceramic Engineer ensures the quality of incoming raw materials and manufactured products through application of quality assurance procedures. In addition this position will work closely with the sales team to develop custom colors matching our customer’s requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for all testing of incoming raw materials, ensuring compliance with established plant quality specifications.
Perform testing of fired brick to ensure adherence to established plant specifications and ASTM.
Responsible for glaze formulation and color matching relating to custom color development.
Develop and maintain quality assurance standard operating procedures.
Assist in new product development and evaluation/resolution of product complaints.
Identify opportunities for manufacturing cost reduction and quality improvement of all products as needed.
Maintain lab testing records including data logs/systems relating to color match and customer requirements.
Research and stay current on relevant color and laboratory technology.
Qualifications
Associates Degree in Ceramic Engineering or related field
5 -10 years technical experience preferable in clay products, white wares or tile manufacturing
Excellent organizational, communication and presentation skills
Dedicated to continuous improvement and collaborative team building
Training and/or experience in color matching software and LECO test equipment (carbon/sulfur test equipment).
Plant process improvement, statistical process control, safety and environmental background with compliance experience.
Maintaining awareness/knowledge of relative improvements in regards to brick color match technology and quality.
Systematic “hands on” and detail oriented approach to problem solving
Computer literate in Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.
