This is a day position working primarily Monday through Friday.
Coordinates daily operations in a section of the Laboratory, or on a particular shift to provide quality patient care and services by ensuring timely and accurate results of laboratory tests as requested. Clinical Shift Lead will have responsibilities across sections.
Ensures compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agencies: CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, etc. Prepares Department Schedule to ensure appropriate shift coverage 7/24/365 Completes payroll for department Plans the section work tasks or shift objectives to achieve timely and effective completion of tests; capable of coordinating staff to adjust to changes in workload. Works on the Bench at least 80% of time. Performs tests; reviews and verifies the accuracy of all results and assures timely reporting of results. Ensures proper identification and handling of specimens. Ensures compliance to the Critical Value system, consults with pathologist on exceptions and problems pertaining to patient care. Department Lead may perform on-site employee counseling when applicable. Will be the assigned "Charge Technologist" in the absence of the Department Supervisor. Assist in the development and implementation of a preventive maintenance program for equipment/instrumentation. Assist in the development and maintenance of current SOPs. Assist with evaluation and/or development of new procedures as required; assist with training for all new procedures in section or shift. Maintains statistics and records regarding equipment, procedures, reagents, controls, and tests performed. Ensures adequate inventory of supplies for continuous operation of the section. Maintains contact with vendors regarding instrument, when applicable. Maintains infection control and good safety/housekeeping practices throughout the section. Maintains knowledge base in any applicable information systems. Ensures that job specific orientation is provided to new employees. Assists supervisor with the completion of all probationary and annual performance reviews by the designated due date. Provides on going communication to Department Supervisor(s) and/or Manager on operations and staffing.
- Registered Medical Technologist (ASCP or NCA)
- Detailed knowledge of the equipment of the section.
- Good working knowledge of performance of tests performed in the section.
- Good working knowledge of departments and functions.
- Good working knowledge of leadership and management principles.
- Good organization abilities, time management skills and priority setting.
- 2 years experience as a Medical Technologist preferred
