Senior Manager, Global Buying : 847478 Position Summary

The Senior Manager, Global Buying position will support the Global Buying team in the identification, prioritization, and capture of product cost reduction opportunities through the coordination and leverage of Staples’ worldwide size and reach. Strong knowledge of merchandising, finance and supply chain is necessary. This position will require significant independent thought and action, and will interact with all
                                                      of our business units around the world. Major responsibilities:
                                                      • First and foremost, lead a team of analysts to provide the tools, data, and analyses which will lead to cost reductions.

                                                      • Second, work closely with VP Merch Ops, and senior merchandising leadership to develop strategies for bringing product cost reductions to fruition. Where appropriate, execute determined strategies.

                                                      • Third, effectively manage complex projects across SBUs, geographies, and functional areas, with the ability to educate and influence both internal and external participants.

                                                      Primary Responsibilities
                                                      • Manage 1-2 associates, including Sr. Analyst, Global Buying

                                                        • Database and spreadsheet creation and maintenance, including gathering of data from worldwide SBUs, converted into common analytical and currency terms.

                                                        • Build models to identify and compare common components of product costs, programs, and logistical costs.

                                                        • Develop and generate reporting on periodic and ad hoc bases to track progress of global buying initiatives vs. targets, and communicate to senior management.

                                                        • Develop and improve processes to gather, track, and present data, regardless of centralized system support.

                                                      • Data Analysis and Opportunity Identification

                                                        • On vendor, category, SKU and item bases, perform analyses to identify product cost savings opportunities within North America.

                                                        • Work with functional experts to develop costing assumptions for logistics, packaging, and other factors.

                                                        • Work with merchandising teams to match SKUs across SBUs, languages, and geographies.

                                                        • Work with merchandising and supply chain teams to deliver cost savings identified.

                                                      • Global Buying Strategy

                                                        • Assist VP Global Buying in continuous refinement and execution of Global Buying strategy.

                                                        • Work closely with VP Global Buying, and senior merchandising leadership to develop strategies for bringing product cost reductions to fruition.

                                                          • Strategic and financial implications and trade-offs for focus categories and vendors.

                                                          • Develop and monitor detailed time and action plans.

                                                      • Bachelors Degree

                                                      • Minimum 6 years of experience in merchandising, financial analysis, or supply chain functions with both management and key contributor roles

                                                      • Outstanding project management skills, including follow-up on action points and monitoring tasks to completion. Superior attention to detail.

                                                      • Strong change management and problem resolution skills and leadership. Proven ability to navigate through complex, diverse business structures to accomplish responsibilities, projects, and company objectives.

                                                      • Self-motivated with the ability to quantify analyses and present findings to senior management. Significant independent thought and action, interacting with all of our business units around the world. Some independent international travel will be required.

                                                      • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, both verbal and written. Brio, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint experience.
