Working conditions carry unpredictable job hazards as inmates have histories of violent behavior with potential to be aggressive verbally and physically. Will generally work within the institution, but may be required to do some traveling for training. Work is of light demand necessitating some walking, standing and bending. Works in a locked unit.
Job Overview: The position is responsible to coordinate admissions and discharges to the infirmary. Coordinates internal and external resources to meet inmates needs based on Infirmary policies and procedures. Counsels with inmates concerning psycho/social needs.

A. Provides case management services to inmates to meet their psychosocial needs by following facility policies and procedures.
Counsels inmates regarding issues such as day to day problems, behavior management, crisis intervention and grief.
Receives, investigates, and documents inmate grievances and reports findings to Infirmary Manager.
Participates in Care Plan meetings, presents case manager information, and contributes to developing individual inmate care plans.
Works as an inmate advocate to ensure inmate rules are followed and basic needs are met through collaboration with security officers.
B. Documents inmate adjustment to daily incarceration and Infirmary life in accordance with policy and procedures.
Provides documentation of inmate behavior by daily/weekly entries in the medical record following policy and procedure.
Complies with all federal, state rules and regulations concerning inmate documentation.
Provides social contact information to unit administrative support staff that is responsible for updating the medical record to ensure its accuracy.
C. Coordinates Inmate Work Program following Federal and State regulations.
Identifies inmates that could benefit from the program. Receives recommendations from the Care Plan Team.
Works with infirmary employees to establish jobs inmates are capable of performing and provide meaningful employment.
Evaluates inmates work performance
Reviews timesheetsand submits them for payroll
Maintains accurate and organized records of the program.
Establishes hourly rates of pay.
Required for the first day of work:
- Knowledge of the principles, procedures, trends and techniques of social work practices.
- Basic theories of behavior management.
- Able to communicate in a professional manner both verbally and in writing.
- Work as a team member in maintaining good working relations with inmates and other employees.
- Good interviewing skills.
Associate degree in Sociology or related field, Bachelors preferred
Two year experience in health care or Corrections
