Position Summary: Provides first contact support to internal and external customers for payroll processing, inquiries, assistance and data verification with an emphasis on providing excellent customer service in an accurate, professional and timely manner. Uses PeopleSoft to perform data entry, maintenance, payroll processing, and reporting and analysis of associated data. Additionally is responsible for state and local tax research and issue resolution. Also has key responsibilities in support of the Human Resource and Finance teams, as well as the Operations team.
In addition to following Chipotle’s policies and procedures, principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
Acting as primary contact for a specific region, offering personal service and answering all questions promptly and accurately
Researching and resolving state and local tax discrepancies
Researching appropriate local tax set-ups for new stores
Compiling, entering, and auditing payroll data; adjusting hours, taxes, and non-benefit deductions, etc.
Resolving payroll issues through audit process or associated communication
Providing year-end support
Assisting with special projects as requested
Assisting and supporting Payroll Manager and Supervisor as needed
Assisting in preparation of general ledger or deduction/earnings code reconciliations
Fielding calls from employees, government agencies, and 3rd party vendors on any questions regarding employee checks, the payroll system, W-2’s, etc.
Entering, processing, and auditing associated information such as personal data, compensation changes, required documentation, and status information in a timely manner
Reviewing weekly audit reports to ensure accurate payroll additions, changes, and deletions
Performing online entry of manual paychecks and stop payments
Processing garnishment, direct deposit, and other general deduction information in the payroll system
Qualifications: Education/Training
High school diploma or an equivalent in education and experience
CPP certification (or working towards certification) preferred
Knowledge/Skills
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Knowledge of and the ability to use a PC as well as Microsoft Office Suite, and PeopleSoft software
Proficient knowledge of multi-state taxation, garnishment laws, and general payroll compliance
Ability to research and interpret federal and state tax codes and payroll laws
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
Extremely detail oriented in auditing and reviewing data for input accuracy
Able to manage financial data in a confidential and professional manner
Work Experience
Four (4) years experience in a payroll function of a large size company
Previous work experience in a fast paced team environment is preferred
Experience with a broad of range state and local payroll tax compliance preferred
