  • JOB SUMMARY: The DMI Regulatory Specialist is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate completion of all medical record documentation requirements by regulatory agencies, specific to the Medical Staff. Specific job duties include but are not limited to: analyzing electronic medical record documents and documentation to identify and assign deficiencies to the correct medical staff member, monitoring work queues for medical staff member refusals and reassigning deficiencies as appropriate, gathering specified performance improvement data elements during analysis activities, building and maintaining positive and professional relationships with medical staff members to facilitate communication and successful document/documentation outcomes, orienting new medical staff members, completing audits on medical staff documents and documentation, gaining and maintaining regulatory agency requirement knowledge as it applies to medical record completion, documents, and documentation to be a resource to the HIM System Director, other BRHC leaders and care team members, and Medical Staff members, and assisting the DMI Manager with information gathering and process monitoring for quality and process efficiency. This position will work closely with the Medical Staff Office and its members, Quality Management, Coders, the ED, the Surgery Department, and Nursing Units. Performs other duties as assigned.


    Education: Associates or Bachelors degree in a healthcare-related field required.

    Experience: Medical record chart analysis experience in a hospital or physician office setting strongly preferred.

    License/Registration: AHIMA credential of RHIT, RHIA or credential-eligible required.

    Other: Must have excellent interpersonal skills as well as possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be detail-oriented; must be very proficient with basic office equipment, particularly with a PC, printer, and copier; must be able to work at both hospitals as needed; must be able to think critically and creatively to positively problem solve; must enjoy working with a diverse medical staff and be able to consistently remain positive, courteous, and professional while ensuring all applicable laws, regulations, and policies/procedures are faithfully followed.

    TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Corrected vision and hearing to normal range and ability to discern color; eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Full range of body motion including sitting for prolonged periods of time; lift, carry, push or pull objects weighing up to 10 pounds; repetitive motion.
