Senior Retiree Health Care Actuary

The Aon Hewitt Health & Benefits Practice is looking to hire a Vice President level actuary to support key retiree health care consulting and sales needs.
This person would be the lead senior health care actuary responsible for supporting the Aon Hewitt Navigators sales strategy, and serve in a variety of internal and external consulting roles to support this overall sales need.
Moving retirees from a traditional employer-sponsored group health care strategy to an exchange-based individual purchasing model can be a complex decision, as there are a variety of qualitative and quantitative themes to understand and address before a decision to proceed can be made. Employers will need to understand not only the cash financial opportunity driven by the efficiencies in the individual retiree health care market, but also the impact on its retiree welfare accounting costs and liabilities (FAS 106 / GASB 45 / ASC 715). They will need to understand the impact on the retiree benefit experience and on retirees’ health care costs and exposures. Moving its retirees to an individual purchasing model is not just an administrative decision, but also represents a significant change in the employer’s retiree health care strategy and philosophy that requires the same level of consulting support as any other change in strategy of this magnitude.
As such, Aon Hewitt has identified the need for an experienced and dedicated health care actuarial resource to support consulting needs and aggressive sales goals for 2013+ implementations. The actuarial resource is needed to provide retiree health care strategy consulting support to sales prospects, and to manage, deliver, and explain the financial opportunity modeling, in support of the broader Aon Hewitt Navigators sales strategy.
Perform advanced retiree health care strategy and design consulting to include the following:
Consult with companies on the retiree strategy and design implications of health care reform
Discuss the merits of an individual market strategy relative to traditional group program benefit sourcing
Lead actuarial and financial assessments of the premium and out-of-pocket cost impacts of moving from group-based retiree health care options to individual options
Assist clients and prospects in developing HRA-based subsidy strategies to transition from a group-based sourcing strategy to an individual-based sourcing strategy which meets company financial objectives and retiree benefit commitments
Work with the prospect’s retiree welfare valuation actuary to understand the accounting implications of various defined contribution subsidy strategies associated with the move to individual market-based benefit sourcing
Participate with other senior level sales colleagues to present the analysis described above to colleagues and prospective clients
Work closely with the broader Aon Hewitt Retiree Health Care Sub-Practice to leverage materials, models, expertise, sales strategies, etc. across the broader Aon Hewitt Health & Benefits practice
Provide leadership on targeted clients/prospects focusing on broader business objectives
Exhibit leadership in business judgment in anticipating client/project needs and developing alternative solutions
Analyze scoping needs
Take ownership of outcomes
Delegate responsibilities effectively; coach and mentor team members
Build relationships with clients
Understand clients' business needs
Build relationships with Account Executives (AE), Sales & Accounts colleagues, and team leads from other practices
Develop business plan and integrated work plan with Aon Hewitt HRO (benefits administration)
Lead/facilitate complex client meetings to measurable results
Form effective teams, share client background and goals, measure results, share ideas, identify process improvements, provide timely and regular coaching and feedback to team members
Actively engage in peer review: have documents reviewed before going to client and review others

College degree (or equivalent experience)
Candidate must have an FSA/ASA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries or Associate of the Society of Actuaries) designation.
5 + years of industry experience (carrier or consulting)
Project management experience
People management experience or equivalent skills
Broad business knowledge/perspective
Team building skills
Retiree health care experience (5+years)
Business development experience preferred
