Assesses inpatient needs for infusion therapy and plans, organizes, performs and evaluates nursing activities to meet those needs. Coordinates patient care and interaction of staff. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specified age range of all units of nursing unit. Provides education as needed regarding all aspects of infusion therapy.
Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient satisfaction in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System.
Responsible for ensuring the very best patient/family experience by optimizing all customer interaction. Foster a positive work environment through mutual support and cooperation and adheres to GHS and unit specific Service Standards.
Reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrates good organizational skills and effective communication skills.
Demonstrates excellent clinical nursing skills, knowledge, judgment and leadership in an independent environment.
Demonstrates ability to insert short, midlines and PICC catheters with accuracy.
Demonstrates ability to work independently as well as in team environment.
Demonstrates ability to educate all staff members regarding Infusion Therapy using Standards of Care for guidelines.
Demonstrates ability to be confident, personable, self-motivated and function with tact and poise in stressful situations.
Demonstrates capability of making rapid and clinically accurate decisions and possessing innovation under adverse conditions.
Demonstrates ability to maintain confidentiality.
Demonstrates ability to interact professionally on all levels within and outside the organization.
Demonstrates basic computer skills.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an approved school of nursing required. RN currently licensed (or eligible) in the state of Pennsylvania required.
BLS certification preferred.
Certification in IV Therapy preferred.
Duration of on-the-job training to become familiar with job duties varies.
Certification of PICC insertion using ultrasound guidance required.
Must be proficient at peripheral IV starts and also accessing Implanted Vascular Access Devices.
Knowledge of TPA usage preferred. Knowledge of all aspects of Central line care and maintenence preferred.
Must be able to perform phlebotomy procedure.
CRNI not required but preferred.
