Essential Functions

Our laboratory performs a variety of research studies related to urologic disorders that lead to renal injury and chronic kidney disease. While prior experience in this field is not necessary, it is expected that the candidate will demonstrate a potential to eventually perform experiments independently while contributing to the common goals of our research team.


1. DESIGN AND EXECUTE EXPERIMENTS. Our laboratory utilizes a variety of experimental approaches. While it is not expected that the candidate will have prior experience in all of these areas, a capacity for learning complex molecular techniques and prior experience in some of these areas (or related areas) is required:

a. Performing experiments by utilizing a variety of molecular techniques including electrophoresis, RT-PCR, ELISA, immunoblotting, immunostaining, flow cytometry, recombinant DNA cloning, and siRNA/plasmid transfection.
b. Maintaining primary and transformed cell lines by using standard tissue culture techniques.
c. Maintaining transgenic mouse populations by handling animals, genotyping, and strategic breeding.
d. Modeling human disease in mice by performing basic microsurgical techniques and analyzing physiologic and pathologic processes.

2. ANALYZE AND INTERPRET EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS. The research in our laboratory focuses on urologic disorders that lead to chronic kidney disease and the pathogenesis of renal injury. While it is not expected that the candidate will have prior experience in this area, the candidate should have prior experience in analyzing the results of experiments and interpreting their biological and/or clinical significance. This includes the ability to read, comprehend, and critically evaluate scientific publications related to the area of research.

3. COMMUNICATE RESEARCH FINDINGS. The candidate should possess the ability to effectively communicate research findings by assisting in the preparation of written manuscripts/research grants and delivering oral presentations at laboratory, departmental, and national research conferences. Depending on the experience and career plans of the candidate, the candidate may also have the opportunity to apply for independent research funding during their career advancement.

4. ASSIST IN DAILY LABORATORY OPERATION. Along with the other members of the laboratory, the candidate will be expected to assist in the day-to-day functions associated with maintaining a research laboratory. This includes maintaining a clean work environment and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Required Qualifications

The candidate must possess the equivalent of a Doctoral Degree in a field related to biology, chemistry, or biochemistry. The candidate should also have 5 years of research experience in a laboratory setting. The candidate must have demonstrated the ability to implement general laboratory procedures, conduct research, and record findings, with a focus on the pursuit of advanced education in their research field.

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is commensurate with experience.
