Position Description:
Position Title : Human Resources Manager - US
Position reports to : Global Head of HR & Change
Direct reports: HR Generalist (1)
Key relationships: All plant/departmental heads in the US, Regional HR Managers, Corporate communications and other staff members.
Key Purpose:
The purpose of this both strategic and hands-on HR generalist role is to manage all human resource services and activities for US with a strong emphasis on employee development and process improvements. This means:
1. To contribute to organizational effectiveness and financial objectives by asking the hard questions, e.g. what can we do to create a more productive and engaged work force?
2. To develop, direct and administer Human Resources programmes consistent with Group (HR) strategy and policy and applicable legislation.
Principal Accountabilities
Develop HR Operations Plan, then translate the Plan into HR targets and manage Plan implementation to support the overall business strategies. Liaise with functional heads to ensure appropriate HR planning needs are met (staffing, training and development). Coordinate recruitment of staff at all levels and ensure the highest calibre / quality of staff are attracted with the most cost effective means. Help develop "pipeline" by promoting succession planning, (internal) recruiting of qualified personnel and supporting job enrichment opportunities. Provide support to functional managers to insure that effective rewards and recognition are in place to incentivize the right behaviours and optimize performance, including the administration and coordination of the salary review and bonus processes. Maintain equity and integrity in employee compensation; participate in salary surveys and coordinate with Group Head of HR & Change on job evaluation and compensation issues. Provide direction and guidance on problem resolution to both management and employees. Establish and implement HR policies and procedures that are consistent with divisional/corporate initiatives and legislative requirements. Maintain and report on key management information headcount, attrition, absence, recruitment, turnover as required. Facilitate effective employee communication. Manage Short Term Disability issues. Coordinate with HS&E regarding effective management of Workers Comp claims. Provide coaching and counselling support. Work with functional heads to insure appropriate organization structures are in place, including roles and responsibilities. Liaise with HR outsourced service providers (benefits, payroll, HRIS, relocation, outplacement, etc.). Serve as HRIS Administrator. Maintain responsibility of $250M in revenue, and 400 employees. Manage and coordinate the performance management process for the US. Other duties as directed by the Global Head of HR & Change.
Ideal Candidates
Professional
A strong track record of success as an HR generalist, obtained within an international blue chip manufacturing organization.
Specifically:
Able to communicate fluently and concisely (written and verbal) in English.
Demonstrate a track record of supporting successful organisation design & effectiveness and process improvement activities and has extensive experience in change management, recruitment in US, employee relations in US and training/development.
Able to see the bigger picture of their work without losing eye for detail.
Able to get quickly up to speed with what the organization is about, the organizations aims and objectives and who the key personnel are (both external and internal).
Demonstrate a combination of toughness, agility and resilience.
Have excellent people management and change management skills.
Thorough knowledge of US employment law.
Experience as a HR Generalist within a union free environment.
Personal
A proactive, resilient, down to earth and roll-up the sleeves type of person with strong professional communication skills and a strategic mindset will be required. The successful candidate will be able to set the right priorities and is not afraid to push back.
Specifically:
Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in a relevant field. Graduate degree preferred.
7 to 10 years of progressive HR experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a HR Generalist role.
Minimum of 5 years experience working within a high performance process manufacturing environment.
Discretion and confidentiality are essential attributes.
Results orientation combined with a sense of urgency establishes goals and stays focused on the critical path.
Demonstrates leadership capabilities and teamwork skills.
Proven ability to influence and interact with various types and levels of people in an organisation.

Base: $100K + bonus up to 30% (negotiable)
