As we continue to expand, we are looking for a Systems Administrator for the Production Operations team with extensive production support experience and a calm and steady demeanor. Production Ops provides the platform on which Marin Pro and Marin Enterprise are run, and designs and maintains all servers, networking and security devices, monitoring, backup and disaster-recovery systems in the production datacenter environment. Strong systems design and planning skills are a must, and constant communication is essential.
Life is complicated enough without over-engineering things – our design philosophy is that simpler is usually better. Anything that needs to be done more than twice should probably be automated, and proper planning and testing mean less stress and fewer errors in times of pressing need. We strive to have an ego-free work environment. Above all, we’re a close-knit team that depends on each other, and we’re looking for people who have the skills, work ethic and sense of humor to help us grow and stay true to these values.
Care and feeding of several-hundred-node production server environment.
Proactive monitoring of systems and service architecture.
Design and implementation of deployment, configuration management, backup, and disaster recovery systems and procedures.
Scaling a global server environment and ever growing data sets.
Custom tools development for application management.
Documentation of all systems processes and procedures.
Project ownership for all of the above.
Participation in 24x7 on-call rotation.
Mastery of UNIX / linux (CentOS, debian/ubuntu).
Scripting chops in at least two of: perl, python, ruby, bash.
Compulsion to write things down and tell others what you did.
Deep understanding of IP networking / CIDR.
Proficiency with any of: git, svn, CVS, perforce.
Experience designing for HA / fault-tolerance / disaster recovery.
Up-to-date knowledge of x86 server and storage platforms.
Expert ability to get things done.
Bonus Qualifications (nice to have):
Experience with puppet, cfengine, capistrano, or similar automation tools.
Experience with hadoop / HDFS cluster administration.
Experience with SQL and NoSQL concepts.
