Institution: Founded in 1931, Ringling College of Art and Design is a private professional college fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and CIDA, the Council for Interior Design Accreditation. Ringling College of Art and Design’s primary mission is to prepare students to be discerning visual thinkers and ethical practitioners in their chosen area of art and design and to provide an intensive professional education in the visual arts. Ringling College has taken a leadership role in the integration of high technology within art and design curricula in response to the marketplace and trends in the professions. It is authorized to award the BFA in thirteen visual arts disciplines and the BA in the Business of Art and Design, a new program that bridges the business world with art and design education. Ringling College employs 148 faculty who instruct 1,400 students from 46 states and 40 countries. The large residential campus is near downtown Sarasota. Position: Ringling College of Art and Design has established an exciting curriculum with unique courses in the first year for every degree program. In order to meet the needs of this academic vision, the College is seeking qualified candidates that are broadly trained in their discipline and passionate about teaching primary introduction courses in a collaborative environment. This position is assigned to the Illustration Department, but serves students from Illustration, Computer Animation and Game Art and Design. Candidates should have the expertise and ability to teach and incorporate the following competencies and instructional skill sets for introductory level courses within a structure of three courses or nine credits per semester.

Skills targeted for this position include:
Principles of composition and 2D design
Principles of color theory – applications, additive and subtractive
Digital drawing, painting and composition
Landscape drawing
Human and animal anatomy
Expressive drawing – observational and gesture
Sequential action drawing
Visual storytelling

Included among the Duties and Responsibilities of this position are:
Attending relevant area meetings and critiques
Collaborating with other faculty teaching the same courses to optimize delivery of the common competencies to students across majors
Sharing projects, examples and resources with area colleagues
Participation with on-going project reviews
Work with Coordinators and Department Heads on variations or improvements to the delivery of the common competencies
Attend and participate in end-of-semester curricular reviews, assessment and planning meetings
This is a full time faculty appointment with benefits. The salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date is August 2013. Job Requirements

Required Qualifications for the position will include evidence of:
A MFA or other terminal degree in the field or equivalent degree in the visual arts
An ability to clearly communicate and work effectively with faculty, students and administrators
Proficiency in digital technology relevant to the area and courses
Willingness to work in a collaborative educational environment

Preferred Qualifications include evidence of:
Successful college level teaching
Active record of creative achievement, professional activity or exhibitions
